I cannot afford to put the dog to sleep. He's in a lot of pain, constantly. Would it be "humane" if I just out the dog into a bathtub with a radio in it?

P;ease contact your local SPCA or Humane Society and tell them about your situation. They can help in one way or another to see that your dog gets put to sleep humanely.
Please don't try shooting or shocking your dog to death. You would cause your dog a lot more pain than you imagine. There is a humane way to do so please don't let him suffer an execution style death.
There are some Vets that will work with a person on payments and it isn't that expensive to have a dog euthanized.
The SPCA may even know a Vet you could go to that would help you with that if they don't do it themselves.

I used to work at a vet's office, and after you dog is deceased there is still a charge for disposal. Check with the animal control they might know of a cheaper way.
There are options out there, we used to help people all the time.

That is a great idea! However, you have to be careful so the dog doesn't jump out before you get the radio in the tub!

What I recommend would be to sit in the tub and hold the dog, THEN, pull the radio in!

Did you contact your vet? My vet, out of courtesy to her patients ,she euthanizes them from the kindness of her heart and does not charge for this service. During the past years I had to have two dogs euthanized and they had been seen by this vet for years. Would be nice of all vets to do this service for free if the dog is a regular patient. Contact the ASPCA in your area. Good luck.

call your local Humane Society. If you can't afford it they have programs for low income owners for vet care. If you have to you can sign it over to them so they will get it the treatment it needs or put it to sleep the right way. Please do not do this to your dog, he wouldn't do it to you.

You may want to contact right away your nearest animal shelter or Friends for Animals explain to them your situation I am sure either one will help you in this terrible and painful time.

Good Luck

NO! }:O
Electrocution is painful and WRONG and INHUMANE!!! D:

Freezing is so much calmer and easier. Provided your dog is small enough and you can take enough stuff out, I reccomend folding him up and placing him in the freezer. Your dog will thank you sir.

I wish you solace in this hard time 0;C

NO! That is illegal in the USA and means jail time as well. Take your dog to the local shelter and surrender him. Least they will either treat him or humanly euthanize him.

You know, when we had to put our dog to sleep, the vet told us that when we get a dog, we make a promise to love them while we have them and then when it's time to let them go, let them go. I have heard that you can give them an overdose of painkillers and it will be painless and they will just go to sleep. It's hard to lose a friend like that, but our dog was suffering terribly and I couldn't bear to see him struggling to breathe. I am glad that we let him go. Sorry about your dog.
