Hey Alls..

I moved to Texas from Central Florida in August, 2006. I have been told like 5 different things by just as many people about how to go about registering, getting my car inspected, gettting my Texas drivers license, etc. I am like SO tired of gettting the run around by everyone. My Florida drivers license has not expired; it expires in 2112. My question is.. Do I still need to take the drivers test? Also... what do I do first??? Inspection or what?

Thanks in advance

Signed.. Confused in Houston

P.S. I just got back from Washington state. That is why I have not yet gotten everything taken care of.

Next time, instead of asking 5 people who don't have a clue, just go to the web site, or walk into the office, and this is what you will find out...

Moving to Texas?
New residents moving into Texas, who have a valid driver license from their home state, have 30 days after entry into the state to secure a Texas driver license. To apply for a Texas driver license, applicants will be required to:

Applicants age 18 and over with a VALID out-of-state driver license

Provide proof of Identity.
Provide proof of Social Security Number.
Provide proof of Texas vehicle registration and liability insurance, if you own a vehicle.
Complete required forms available at any Texas Driver License office.
Pay the required fee.
Pass a vision exam.
If you have a VALID out-of-state license in your possession, it must be surrendered at the driver license office.
NOTE: If you have never been licensed or have an EXPIRED out-of-state license, you will be required to pass both the written and driving exams, in addition to a vision test.

Asuming that you are 18 or over, you only need to take the written test and pass the eye test. That's all. Just hit the local DPS licensing office and they'll hook you up in about 30 minutes if it's not too busy.

oklatom is right about the drivers license. To change the registration on the vehicle, contact the County Tax Assessor Collectors off ice in the county you reside. They handle registration for TXDot
