well from my personal experiance body butter is best used after your nightly shower as it's thicker and takes longer to be asorbed where as lotion being thinner and more water based is better through the day to allow your pores to breath..
like i say this is just a personal observation, i'm not a beauty ed or nothing but i do lurve my beauty products.

I think is really depends on where you are getting both of these products. For the most part, in the naturals skin care market... lotion is mostly a water and oil based emulsion. Where most body butters are oil based, sometimes made with Shea, Mango or Cocoa butter.

When you are talking about commercial preparations... they call some of their creams "Body Butter" and they can be they same as lotion but with less water.

You all know what a fool I am over shea butter anything...LOL. Well, over the holidays, my good friend Julia from All About The Pretty gave me the loveliest gift....some whipped shea butter that she swears by. I love referrals, especially ones to small mom & pop type companies that are making quality products. Maryam's Soap Nook is one such company. Everything is all natural and made by hand. Maryam's business began very simply, she began making soaps, body butters and bath oils in her kitchen after taking an interest in aromatherapy for children when she was pregnant. Along with her baby, Maryam's Soap Nook was born!

The shea body butter that Julia gave me is absolutely wonderful! This is not your typical shea butter, she has also included monoi de tahiti oil (yummy...), cocoa butter, sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, goat's milk, vitamin E and silk fibers..(whew! say that 4 times fast!) The result is an ultra rich, ULTRA moisturizing body butter that chases away the flakies big time. The scents are lasting and there are so many to choose from, nearly 40 in all.

I can't wait to try some of her other products and other body butter scents because I am officially hooked!

Stay Pretty!!

Very little but- I refuse to let it go at that. Commercial preperations contain a myriad number of ingredients most of which are there to preserve the product-(shelf life). The best lotion that has the fewest consequences is virgin olive oil infused with rose oil. It takes just one or two drops of rose oil to invigorate a premium olive oil thats suitable for both bed/bath use. Matress must be encased (to wipe clean) and bath must be enveloped with floral candels. Multiple color transitions invigorate the soul.Temp transitions in concert transform .

I think body butter absorbs into the skin better than lotion, leaving the skin silky smooth.

I think body butter mosterizes way better, and the smell also lasts longer.
