As a health care provider I have not used this drug but I have perscribed it frequently since it has come out on the market. I can tell you that it is working better than anything we have ever had to help with smoking cessation. I have had a few who had nausea the first week and quit using it. But overall....its been great. I usually never endorse an individual drug to my patients. But I have started placing the literature for Chantix in each examining room for patients to read until I come in. I always ask it they use tobacco (in any form) and I talk to them about this medication. My son has been able to quit by using it. It is well worth trying. Some insurances are paying for it. And if you must pay for it yourself...it costs less than a pack of cigarettes a day. It will still take motivation on your part to quit...but this drug will make it much easier by completely stopping nicotine cravings..... and if you do smoke, you will get no feeling from the nicotine. What it cannot do is stop the 'habit' part of smoking. Like "I get in the car and I light up' or 'I get a cup of coffee and I light up'. Take the pill for one week before your stop date. And use the website for additional support.

Chantix worked real well for me.It really helped get over that initial hump.I took the pills as recommended for the first 20 days and quit on day 10. I cut it down to one pill a day for 10 more days and then stopped. I still haven't smoked and I'm doing good. I had cravings but they were short lived and relatively easy to deal with.
I think it's a great helper in quiting. The only side effects I had were little stomach aches and gas while taking it. I highly recommend it. It was just the assist I needed for those first few weeks.

My best friend took it for a couple of months. She said that she didn't have any of the nasty withdrawal symptoms. She also hasn't felt like smoking. She had been smoking for 20 plus years. She experienced some very vivid dreams while taking Chantix, but other than that she didn't have any other side effects.

I Have a mother in law that used it and has been smoke free for 3 months, nothing never helped her but this. I have a sister in law that it worked for also. My other mother in law had to quit taking it because it made her really sick and caused her a lot of depression. Hope this helps..
