I'm thinking of becoming a bartender when I get older, not as my only job, more of a night job since they don't make much. I've found a site that is perfect for different drink combinations and what you need to know. But I can't find any info on bartender tricks. I know that in most bars the tenders flip bottles and pour the drinks in fancy ways, but there's no sites that tell you the different kinds and how to do them. Does anyone else know any?

Bartenders in a busy place or higher end place can easily clear $100K a year with 'full time' work. Of course, most make significantly less than that, but it's usually the highest earning position in a restaurant.

As far as "flair" (stunts), most bars don't really do that. A flip of the bottle is usually as far as it goes. Of course there are exceptions (Coyote Ugly and such), but most bars are not like Tom Cruise in Cocktail. It's not really something you can learn from a website. Get some empty bottles and start flipping and twirling.

And don't stress about "flair" or recipes too much right now. Unless it's a family restaurant, you usually can't just walk into a bartending position without experience. It's the most highly sought position, so places frequently either promote from within or hire super experienced people. The best time to get in is when a restaurant opens or in late summer when college kids will be returning to school - they will then occasionally hire bartenders straight out. But again, most places require experience and really the only way to get it is to work your way up at a restaurant.

Good luck to you. : )

I have looked myself for bar tricks online and found many sites, but you have to pay to view them or get thier video. I did want to comment on the "they dont make much money" part. I have been a bartender for about five years, and it's not a life long job. But, I make excellent money, usually about $200 a night, four nights a week. My husband used to make $1,500 only working three nights a week. There is money to be made but it is a very mentally draining job. Don't get me wrong it's fun, I love bartending, but after a while it's time to move on.

Save your money and don't worry about doing tricks at a bar. Only certain bars actually do the fancy bottle flipping and tricks. It's actually really cheezy. If you really want to do it, then practice on your own. Oh, and bartenders can make lots of money. I used to be one.

In reality there are very few places where bartenders do those stunts. Mainly on TV. However, as a bartender myself, I make great money. It all depends on where you go. Nicer establishments are going to get you more $ than some of the all night clubs. I work at a country club & make enough to support me & my 2 children.
