How do I clean it up and get it ready for me to wear? It is about 55 years old.

When I had my Grandmother's dress I washed it by hand in the bath tub with Woolite...it came out fine. Or you could take it to a cleaners....but make sure they know what they're doing as dry cleaning involves chemicals that can damage older fabrics. Get it in writing that they are indeed responsible if they ruin it!

Good luck

I'd hand wash it, let it air dry and buy a steamer. You can get one off amazon.com for around $40. Once it's cleaned and steamed, I'd contact a local bridal alterations lady to see if she'd be interested in quoting how much to fix and size it to you. What a fabulous idea for your something old!!! Congratulations & good luck!!!

If you look in your Yellow Pages you should find a category for Bridal Gown Cleaning & Preservation. They may not be able to repair it but they can clean it up and recommend someone who can make the repairs.
