It is 16, but going up to 18. You are right not to wish to though, they are smelly and expensive!

The question is do you have to smoke at all, and it's a good thing if you really don't plan on smoking. Legally you have to be 18 and even some states proposing to raise it to 19 to purchase them and the actual age for smoking probably varies by state but like mentioned earlier don't start smoking for your own good. Law's in many states vary,most card the buyer regardless if they appear under the age of 35.In my state and those on the border,it's age 21.Please try to discourage your friend from smoking,ABC news did a study last year,and they found that cigarette's today have 11% more nicotine in each cigarette,than those bought 10 yrs ago,that's why it's so HARD to quit ! Depends... Where are you talking about? in the UK it's 16 in the US it's 18.
Don't smoke it's an addiction which is hard 2 kick... I'm a smoker and wish I'd never started!

Uk is 16 to buy but they are raising to age to 18 sometime soon.. think October. Didn't think there was a legal age to smoke them. They assume that if you can't buy them you wont smoke them.
I don't think the police can enforce anything if they see anyone younger smoking.

you have to be 16 to buy them although I have never heard of anyone being arrested or charged or anything for underage smoking although your friend is wrong in saying you are allowed to smoke at 14. There is no such law in place.
They will soon be raising the age you can buy cigarettes to 18.

You can start smoking at any age if you really want you can name the day if you want ,
What you can't do is stop the effects on your health and from the day you start you will not have a lot choice when you going to get ill and die from smoking or its effects

if you live in the uk like i do then it's 16 to buy them and the same age to smoke them but the goverment is considering putting the age up to 18 to try and discourage young people not to smoke

I guess it is 16 in the U.K? And probably 18 in most states of the U.S. Of course that is for purchasing them, as far as I know no nation has been able to define a legal age of having enough sense to actually say "no mate, no cancer stick for me."
