My dog was 115 lbs and now he weighs 77lbs. This is how I did it. The vet put him on a diet called Prescription Diet, RD, reduced diet. You can only get this food from a vet. He will tell you exactly how much the dog should eat each day and how many treats he will be allowed. You can't give him anything other than the dog food and the few treats he will get. The design of this food allows the dog to feel full and therefore he'll eat less. My dog is proof that it is works. Please try it for your dogs sake. Good luck.

Take Giles on a periodic 15 minute walk. Dont feed Giles any human food as it is often bad for dogs. Consider changing food type to soemthing more healthy such as Purina.

There are some good dry diet foods you can find at your grocery store or pet store. And no table scrabs! If those don't work, see your vet. They have special food they can prescribe and they've also come out with a brand new diet pill for dogs.
If you want some tips on giving dogs pills, I've got an article on wehow. Check the source below...

My Vet told me to cut down on the portions. Also, don't give your dog any people food. This was a big misake I made. I have solved that problem and the weight problem. Let me tell you, it took longer than a year to see a noticable change. So just like people, don't be anxious for a quick fix. Just be strong and cut the food down. Believe it or not, a good way to help is to give your dog some greenbeans (I know, this is people food.....) and it will help your dog to get full and will help with weight loss. NO OTHER PEOPLE FOOD THOUGH!!
Hope this helps......be patient!
~whisper (my dog loved the greenbeans...canned....I was shocked)

Put him on a diet. He can only eat what ever you give him.
Put him on a low calorie dog food and nothing else. Feed him according to the recommendations on the bag of food and see that he gets enough regular exercise.

You should put him on Natures Recipe Diet Dog Food. Natures Recipe is extremely healthy for any dog. It carries no fillers or by products. Make sure you also walk your dog and play with him. Cut back on treats as well.

Less food and more exercise. You'd be wise to take him to the vet as well, just to make sure it's not a medical condition.
