Actually, the path of Greek knowledge into the medieval west went from Syriac-speaking Christians to Muslims to Christians. So thank the Syriac church.

The Church suppressed learning as they believed they would loose control over the people, so with the burning of the Alexandria library and with other book burnings a lot of knowledge was lost. The Muslims didn't burn, but embraced ancient learnings and so with trade with Christian settlements many forgotten concepts were reintroduced.

Because the Arabic world contained the centres where the knowledge was preserved.
