Go to an art school. If your serious to be an artist as a career and actually make money, if you have an education in art, that will help you out the most. Once you get into an art school, after you can get jobs working for people who will hire you to create art, etc. Major in fine arts.

If your serious about becoming an artist first thing is get the right tools of whatever type of painting you are making. Then you should start learning on how mixing colors, like if your paintng a pumpkin it would look better if you put some hint of red and yellow or some shades of orange instead of just plain orange. Then it would good to learn about shading, texture, and light to make the object your painting look 3-D. To make easer is tracing paper and transfer a design then flip the grafite side on the paper or board your painting on and with something hard press on the paper or board. It takes lots of practice and going to college for an art class would also help.

The first thing to do is get intensive training in classical drawing and painting techniques. Typical art colleges and universities do not offer this type of training. I suggest you look into Atelier art schools which are located inside a working artists studio. You should study under a master artist with teaching experience. The New School of Classical Art in Rhode Island is one you might consider. http://www.danalevin.com/atelier.html

The first step to becoming an artist is jumping right into it. Start experimenting with all the mediums available to you. Try different techniques and stick to something you are comfortable working with. Try not to be too judgemental about your art at first. This is what keeps most people from doing their best in art. Also, draw frequently. I suggest keeping a visual diary, something to record all your ideas in (any photos, info. that interests you).

"Like all those guys like picasso and stuff." What, did you wake up this morning and think 'Hey, I wanna be an artist.'

True artists like 'picasso and stuff' have real, honest, God-given talent and were totally committed to art and to their inner creative urge. From the wording of your question, you don't sound too committed to art to me. It sounds to be all about money.

a great way to start is to always carry a sketch book and sketch EVERYWHERE you go. out side, at work, at the coffee shop, etc. everywhere. taking courses, whether offered from a college or your local visual arts center may also help. start to compose a portfolio of your best works. having a website to promote and sell your work is a great tool.

Practice, practice, practice. Paint and sketch as much as you can. Show off your work, try to get it noticed. Work whatever crap job you can get to afford the materials. Sadly though, most artists work is worth more when they're dead.

Go to a bar, get real drunk, throw up until the feeling passes. And, then go home and sleep it off. Wake up to a new day, have a hangover and get a different idea of what to do with your life.
