Hello, I am 13 years old, and I just got contacts. I have been wanting them for ages, and I finally got them. But, when I put them in, it burns my eye until I take them out, no matter how long I wore them. I even wore them for 2 weeks straight. I did exactly what the doctor said. he said to wash them and saok them in cleaning and disinfectant, then rinse with water in put in. That still made them burn, so i called him again. Then he told me I need to get a saline solution to rinse them with before I put in my eye. But, it still hurts!

Now im to the point where I am afraid to touch my eye because I am afraid it will burn. My parents paid a lot of money for my contacts and they are really mad that im not wearing them. I dont know what to tell them, and I dont think I can stand contacts anymore! I am getting to the point where I hate them and think I can suffer with glasses the rest of my life.

I need serious help! Please!

1st question why in the heck did he put you in a gas perm. That is the most uncomfortable lens EVER!! They are hard and non conforming. Do not use and Opti-free or Renu. You have to use Boston brand stuff. Have your optometrist switch you into a soft contact lens. I like the Oasys by Acuvue. Unless you have a power that is to high for a soft lens, but that is uncommon. I would put money behind that it is the type of contact. If not then get a conditioner for your lens. Like I said Boston brand makes that stuff you need for Gas Perms

start trying different lens solutions until you find one that is comfortable for your eyes. Each brand uses different chemicals & it could be there is something in the one you are using that you have a mild allergy to.

Get simple saline, like your dr suggested, & for a few days use ONLY it, do not use the disinfectant (although you need to clean your contact case well before putting them in there, with fresh solution every night) Never ever use plain water...that is just too harsh for your eyes, even with rinsing them!!!

At 13, I'm not sure if you are wearing makeup, but if you are...STOP! that could be a big part of your problem.

It could be, and there are many out there, who just are unable to wear contacts...and your parents can't be angry at you when it isnt anything you can control.

There is also a possibility, that because your eyes were sensative to one of the solutions you used, that you could have developed a slight eye infection, which can cause the burning...do you wake up with crud in the corner of eyes at all? If so, then you do havew an eye infection & you need to throw out the pair of lenses you were wearing (they are contaminated) and get to the eye doctor for medicated drops before wearing contacts again.

feel free to e mail me if you have any other questions!

what do u mean by cleaning and disinfectant? i've had contacts since i was 12, and i've always used contact lens disinfecting solution. like renu or opti-free. also, rinsing with water, i believe, kinda drys out the contacts. u aren't, to my knowledge, supposed to rinse with water...are these like disposable, 2 weeks contacts, or the kind that last a long time? anyway, i wear mine for like 17 hours, then i rinse with my contact lense solution, and put them in the solution in the contact lense case for 6 hours at least....it shouldn't burn, except sometimes when u first put them in...

Gas permeable lenses are best. Your buddy and optician is utterly proper in all of the matters they informed you. If you maintain them and your prescription remains the identical, you'll be able to have that one pair of contacts for five years, even as different humans are spending $60 a month to have delicate contacts. The toughest aspect that almost all sufferers have is being used to the sensation of the tough lens on your eye. If you wore them at present and did ok, I say opt for it!!!
