I wish I had better news...but my oldest son was the same way...slept 12 solid hours each night and then refused to nap. UGH...it made for a long day. I finally insisted that he lay down every day...for an hour. He usually 'read' (looked at pictures in a book) or would watch cartoons quietly. That gave us both a break and it was a rest period. He's now a healthy 15 yr. old that has NO sleep problems...unless you count waking him up for school as a problem. Sigh...

If shes sleeping for 12 hours at night without getting up, or only getting up once or twice, I say no more naps in the daytime. I know it can be hard when they dont nap, cause you can get more things done when they are asleep, but it'll help her in the long run if you dont put her down for a nap in the daytime. My son is 3 and a 1/2 and hasnt taken any naps since before he was 2 and it works out great now, especially at night. He used to wake up 3-4 times a night when he was having naps. So shes not too young to cut the naps out. Only problem you might have is if she is in daycare all day. They usually like to put the kids down for a nap at least once.

That depends on the age, and the child herself. Everyone needs their own amount of sleep. (My kids both sleep about 12 hrs., from about 7-7 every day, and my 1 year old takes one nap during the day) You know your child best, so the only thing I can suggest is to watch and see today. If she goes throughout the day her normal self, not totally cranky and seemingly tired, she may not need a nap. If she is totally exhausted at the end of the day and gives problems going to sleep at night (showing that she is OVER tired), then I would say she needs a nap during the day. As far as getting her to nap, is a whole other issue. First find out if she needs a nap or not, and then go from there. Hope that helps!

You don't say how old your daughter is, but even some two year olds give up their daytime naps. Not everyone fits into the expected pattern so maybe even if your daughter is young, she may be ready to give up daytime naps. You probably wish she'd take a nap so you could have a break. You can still lie down on the sofa (but don't fall asleep!) and have her have a "quiet time" beside you, looking at books or coloring at the coffee table. If she says she doesn't want a quiet time, then tell her her favorite stuffed animal or dolly needs a quiet time, and tell her to show it pictures or color for it (while you lay resting on the sofa). Another trick is to ask her to lay beside you and keep you company for awhile, saying let's see how long we can be quiet. She might fall asleep, or if she doesn't at least both of you will have a little rest. Also as children mature they might go without naps for a few days, then have one again depending on their level of activity. I think she's fine, and I bet she's really sweet.

if she is not used to sleeping that long then yes not wanting to go down for a nap was because of the amount of sleep she got last night.

I think she might have rested up enough in the 12 hours she slept, that she doesn't need a nap.

She probably had enough sleep for the day. At that age she should be getting 12-14 hours of sleep a day.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS! If she's giving you 12 peaceful hours at night, try just giving her a "rest time" in the afternoon. I used to put my daughters in their cribs with music on and some toys and books to play with and leave them for an hour. Everyone needs down time but sometimes they aren't sleepy.

Actually, it's a good thing!
She's sleeping early and waking up early!
No need for naps unless she's all worn out!
This will prepare her for waking up and sleeping early for school and other future activites!
