I am entering and showing the dog myself. Should I use the Am. Bred class, or the novice. Which would be better. He is just out of the puppy classes at 19 months.

AHHHH!! Would you be ready to put "Jesso" out???? The dear lad would do best in Open, but you may not. If you feel better, do Novice, since there are certain people now showing in Am Bred and it might be harder to get a good look there. The novice class is currently quite sparce.
"Jesso" is a very mature boy for his age and would get a fair chance in open. Some judges (whom shall remain nameless) will not give the time of day to either Am Bred or Novice.
Bottom line.......for HIM..OPEN. For YOU...Novice.

Best of Luck!!! His dad will be doing Canada in the spring!!!! LOL!

Westminster is a "champions only" show. You must have a finished dog to enter.

From expereince I would go with either American Bred or Open depending on the size of the show. If it will be a big show then go with American bred, if a smaller show go with open...most people tend to not enter Novice.

I think you should enter the American Bred class - it's a more respected class and it would be better for you if you have competition. Good for you for showing him yourself - you'll have a blast! Try to relax and enjoy - if you're nervous, it passes straight down the leash to your dog. Just concentrate on your dog and the judge and you'll be fine. Good luck!

if it was me id enter the class you think you and your dog are ready for i dont understand the american dog show classes here in britian we have puppy, junior, post graduate, limit, open to name afew of the classes usually they are based on age of dog or number of wins you have or the number of challenge certificates (You need 3 cc to be made up to a champion). I show australian terriers and have done quite well although not won a cc but i just went up in classes by age of dog (hope that makes sense). good luck with the showing please let us know how you do. by the way do you have to qualify to enter westminster like we do crufts good luckxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

If he is mature enough, go for Open. There is better competition there.
