I am not a fan of hunting and not into meat very much, however, husband came home with some deer meat (about 3 lbs) he was given as a gift which he felt awkward refusing. He has been warned of future "gifts".

I feel it would disrespect the life the animal gave to just chuck it away.

Not sure what to do with it. Hamburgers and are not the answer. Appreciate your suggestions. Any good recipes?

I don't eat game either, but my hubby likes it. A friend gave us some meat. Elk, Deer, Moose. I went to some web sites to find recipe and he loved it.

man do i wish i was in your shoes. i have not had venison for years.

you can use it almost any recipe that calls for beef. just keep in mind that dear are lean animals so will have to add kind of oil or butter when cooking it, this also means that the meat can be tough if cooked too fast. anther way to take toughness out is to marinade it.
these are some ways my cooked it when i was a kid, stew it like a pot roast in slow cooker. make jerky out it. use it in chili. rap with bacon and broil it. keep in mind that deer meat is not going to taste like anything you have eaten before it's a one a kind taste, most people like it but there are some who don't. try to keep an open mind about it. good luck

Oh, my goodness! Venison is DELICIOUS!!

One easy but gourmet recipe: cut meat into thick filet mignon style steaks. Serve with a traditional green or black peppercorn and wine sauce or with a dijon flavored sauce (if you do not have deer fat to render for preparing the sauce melt a bit of butter). Enjoy with a hearty red wine.

If the meat is ground up.......mix it half and half with ground chuck and brown it with onion in it....drain well....use for chili, taco meat, spaghetti.....
Before you turn down his friends generosity....if they offer cube steak.....soak it in salt water.....for about 4 hrs in fridge....change the water every hour or so....
when ready to cook.....drain and pat dry.....brush on yellow prepared mustard.....dip in flour (with salt and pepper)
Pan fry in crisco or wesson oil......fry until golden brown on both sides.....this is absolutely delicious.....I use to refuse to cook the deer meat myself.....people gave it to us.....I would pitch it out.....but finally started cooking it.....pretty good.....I think it's just the idea.....If we had been eating deer all our lives and someone gave us beef.....we'd probably be grossed out....
