My mother is convinced she can't get a life insurance policy (just for burial purposes) because she has degenerative disc disease and that it would be too expensive.

I know people who have heart conditions (including relatives) who died and their family had life insurance for them. She has no life ins on her but my father has it on him. All my siblings including myself have gotten into arguments with her because we don't want to have to foot all the bills after she has passed away and we equally don't think my father should take out a loan to pay for her burial.

I've seen these commercials with AARP through New York Life stating that regardless of age or health condition you can get a $10,000 policy. Are there such policies out there and can I get a policy on her without her knowing about it? I want to do this to have a peace of mind and don't want to see my father go through all these stressful things when she passes away. Do I need her SS# to do this?

My husband and myself has AARP life insurance polices on us..I have crohns disease and my husband has COPD and degenerative disk disease , and they have insurance on us.They don,t or didn,t ask us any questions.I have a 14,000 each on us,it cost 37.00 per month each, but $10,000 is plenty to bury someone. You could probably take one out on her,but I don,t know if you could do it without her knowledge unless you signed her name, but it is well worth it because its going to fall on you and other siblings if she don,t have insurance .If you do this then make yourself beneficiary,so you can bury her.....yes you will need her date of birth and her SS# but you should be able to get that from her without her knowing why...

I always see on Forensic Files and other shows about murderers, they are able to purchase a life insurance policy for their spouse or relative without the person's knowledge. Then they kill the person for the money. Why are they able to buy a life insurance policy without the person knowing about it? Wouldn't that prevent some murders if there were better procedures put in place? The shows I am talking about are shows abotu real people and real murders. Forensic Files, Snapped, even dateline

I recently asked my agent this very question. I was told NO due to the fact that the parent would need a physical for this policy and they would then find out about being insured.

He said it MIGHT be possible but it will raise questions from the company itself on WHY you want it to be a secret.

My Husband and I got a life insurance policy on our Son-In-Law last year. He didn't have any insurance. We were thinking if sometime should happen to him our Daughter could not afford the expenses for burial. We got a policy,,But our Son-In-Law had to sign the policy. And we had to have his social sercurity number..But we were the policy holders. I guess it depends on how much life insurance you want....
