Because the God who created us endowed us with an innate need to worship Him.
Why would nature- no, there is no why in nature, because there is no purpose behind it - rather, How could nature produce a creature that has a desire, or even a conception, for something that does not exist?
It is self-evident that the very nature of a human being witnesses there is a Creator.

Because God created us as bodies, souls and spirits and placed within us a conscience. Inside the spirit of every human being is a hole which only Jesus Christ can fill.Religious worship comes from within the spirit."God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must do so in spirit and in truth". Unfortunately, sin and Satan have combined to mislead most humans towards their own ultimate, eternal destruction.

Because we're finite creatures and our hearts have a God-shaped hole in them.
Some worship the immanent/transcendent, loving, purposive ground of being. Some worship reason. Some worship pleasure. Some worship themselves. Some worship lightning. Everyone devotes themselves to what they think is the highest reality, but many are mistaken about what the highest reality is.

They fear the reality of the world they live in. They take comfort in believing that there is some great big orchestrator out there that is calculating their every move and making them do the things they do. Besides the only way they feel comfortable about death is to keep in their warped minds that they will go to heaven and be alive there with all their relatives. NEWS FLASH!!!! Once you die, you are dead. You won't be playin hopscotch with Marvin Gaye and James Brown and Jesus. You will decay in the ground that you were stuffed in.

Human beings are created to know God. He instilled in us a thirst that will not be satisfied until we reach out to Him for companionship and love. Paul wrote in Philippians 3:8 (NAS), "More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ."
We were created to have an intimate, loving relationship with the Lord? and to bring Him glory. Paying respect with our gifts and good works is a natural extension of that design. But our primary responsibility is to spend time with Him.

Because our sins have separated us from the love of God. We are missing God.
People seek for fulfillment only a restored relationship with God can give. Sometimes they reject God and try to find something else to fill this need.

Actually I agree with you and it does seem to have an evolutionary basis. Both Dawkins and Dennet touch on it in their recent books.
