You have some mixed advice! It is a bit baffling to start with when it is all new to you and maybe difficult to select the correct answers.
You may be aware of feeling your contact lenses, but at no time, even in early days should there be ANY discomfort. It will not go away, it will only get worse. If in doubt, take them out. Therefore, yes, good idea to have case, solution & specs with you when out.
Wash & DRY hands before handling lenses or case.
Wearing lenses for more than specified time can lead to lid reactions (CLAPC) which can mean you can't tolerate lens wear in future. (although OLD lenses do not allow as much oxygen through, this info dates back to when people wore the same pair of soft lenses for 2 years or more & is not relavant to lenses that are 2 weeks or 2 months old). However CLAPC is a serious complication. You do not want to ruin chances of future contact lens wear.
Also, to add to the list, if you swim in them, wear goggles over the top. ....And don't smoke! Higher incidents of infections (& twice as likely to get macular degeneration when older.)

I wear contacts and everyone's right..
1. Keep them clean
2. Keep your carrier clean
3. Wash your hands before you take them out or put them on.
The best and most important tip I can give you is, whenever you leave the house, take a lens carrier, a small bottle of fluid and your glasses with you. I have numerous times been out somewhere, at dinner, at a friend's house, DRIVING and something will get in my eye/contact. I have lost many a contact and had to drive home with one good eye, one blurry eye after that happens. Believe me, it's advice that will come in handy.

If, just when you've put a contact in an eye, you get a sharp pain that kinda feels like a piece of dirt is in your eye, don't take the contact out.
Close your eyes and move your eye from side to side and up and down. If the pain is still there, put your finger on it outside of the eyelid. It's probably an air bubble and sometimes you can "work" them out by guiding them to the outer part of your eye.
Took me forever to figure this out! I used to get soooo mad!

I will repeat....NEVER overnite. If you fall asleep with them take them out in the morning and leave them out 48 hours. Overnite them in a cleaner/disinfectant which you then rinse off with sterile normal saline before inserting (reduces irritation). Never rinse with well water (may contain amebae which can destroy a cornea) or even any unsterilized water. You may be able to cheat a little on the replacement time and stretch 2 weeks into 3 or 4, but don't overdo it...old lenses lose their ability to transmit oxygen
and that leads to loss of wearing time and possible corneal ulcers.

Well, not really an advice, but that you'd get more eye infections with contact lenses than if you wear glasses. Guess beauty has a price.

Never overnight (unless they are overnight lenses)
Don't rub them
Keep hands clean
Don't pet your cat or dog before handling them.
If it doesn't settle, its probably inside out.
Never store them in re-wetting drops (especially visine for contacts)
Pinch them at the bottom to remove
Keep your glasses handy anyway (you will lose one someday)

1. Keep them clean!
2. They will hurt or feel uncomfortable at first, but continue to practice wearing them little by little and you will be fine.
3. Do NOT wear them overnight, even if they are made to do so....
4. Enjoy your new contacts!

keep them clean at all times i've been using them for more than 20 years and love them. the past few years i finally switched to disposable they are more sanitary...because even though i tried to keep them clean as much as possible i got an infection in one eye. the doctor suggested disposables. i also have nice designer glasses now so i switch back and forth..good luck!

don't worry about cleaning them every night. its too big of a hassle and no one really does it. just rinse them and rub them a little in the morning before you put them in.
DO NOT rub your eyes with contacts in!!! It will tear them!!! Also, if they hurt your eyes, TAKE THEM OUT!!!! This means that there is something wrong, and if you leave them in, you have a possiblity of going blind.
