...we still have a problem with class - but can still joke about it on, say, Parkinson et al, but we don't hear many jokes on race & religion, partly because they're not allowed...the last throw of the dice was Ali G who sent up a section of black culture - everyone was eventually doing the voices, but I doubt he'd try his hand at Muslims...would everyone start going around talking like Imams? I think not.

Nice one, Teppic...but I did stress 'a section' - mostly teenagers. Black and white kids were trading off each other long before Ali G, hence him picking up on it...and not just in London. Remember Manchester in the late seventies. Cohen was first to witness the oral trade off between English kids and Windie origins, surely?

Thankfully I think the British sense of humour DOES still exist.

Naughty, suggestive and often strangely obscure!

Irony & slapstick walking hand in hand.

No wonder other nations think we're weird.

I was surprised that the USA got "The Office". It was mainly about the awkward silences and the great unspoken truths that we are beset with in our everyday lives... that coupled with a large dollop of political incorrectness (e.g. leaving the wheelchair user halfway down the staircase 'cos it wasn't a REAL fire - only a fire-drill!)

hehehehehehhehehehe

I wasn't a huge fan of the Office - I spent most of the time cringing and hiding behind a cushion.... however I absolutely adored “EXTRAS"!
Still often had cringe-making moments (e.g. the gollywog scene) but the laughs outweighed the cringes for me in this particular series!

So I suppose what I'm saying is - Ricky Gervais has taken on the mantle of keeping the Great British sense of humour alive and well... with the able help of Stephen Fry, Lee Evans and whomsoever else appeals to you.

I've lived as a British person for a long time and our humour was among the driest and best in the world; but unfortunately the younger generation of humourless assho*es came along and has put paid to our natural talent by telling us that it is not pc. I wish you had all lived in our era to actually see how wrong you all are. You humourless bunch of young idiots, you haven't got a clue , and you've spoilt life for the rest of us!

For British humor and politically incorrect jokes, watch the Monty Python's Flying Circus TV show. They often throw racist and religious jokes in.

The thing is even Ali G wasn't sending up a section of black culture itself, rather he was sending up whites who try and follow that culture.

Chris Morris though is pretty good at satirical non-PC humour.

Check out Frankie Boyle. He doesn't imitate accents or stuff but in recent months he's joked about catholics, muslims, terrorism, paedophiles etc etc.

He doesn't leave anyone put - that way no one feels victimised.

But let's stop the topic before it becomes a big problem.
