What is Verizon SmartBridge? And what does it do?

I am on Verizon DSL..... Every now and then a small window pops up and says....."Verizon SmartBridge is already running". Then I have to click on OK. What is happening? Why did it pop up? I didn't ask for it, as I don't even know what it's for or what it does? Can anyone help me with this? Thanks and have a great day! :)

its a program that VZ uses for "self-support" the software will monitor your system for issues and generate a trouble ticket over the Internet if it finds a problem. its not needed, could very well be spy ware.. Has been known to cause various issues with slow performance and crashes.
