I don't know if this is true or not, but I was told that cold water makes better coffee. Something to do with the oil in the coffee not turning bitter when the water is gradually heated, the way that it does when it's already hot.

Pot has like a thermostat so it heats the water hotter for a short period of time. You get better extract from coffee grounds with very hot water. Water should be 2* less than boiling point which is 212*

I've never understood this, and put warm water in. I may be wrong, but it seems that my cheap Mr. Coffee wasn't heating cold water to HOT, but was able to heat warm water to hot.
