I don't want to get my cat declawed because I have read really bad things about it but he is tearing up my couch! I think i'm going to order Soft Claws but I feel like he will find a way to get them off. Has anyone used them before and do they really work?

Yes!

I'm happy to hear you're not going to declaw your cat. The soft claw works really well, depends how active is the cat clawing but for mine they last about 2 months. A little bit difficult to put them on in the beginning but I had my Vet did it for me first time and show me the right way to do it. He won't get them off because you put glue in it.

I'm a cat person, so I've an idea of what you're going through. I wouldn't bother with the soft paw covers, since it appears that she isn't going to tolerate them. I applaud your decision to not have her declawed. But I wouldn't let her get away with the climbing or scratching your legs. When she does that, pick her up and take her to the scratching area, and putting her paws on it, and move them as she would to scratch. One of my cats got the idea after I did that. I think your best bet is to get something from a pet store that's made for scratching. My cats like the circular thing with a ball in it and a cardboard center to scratch. You need to experiment with various items until she discovers one that she likes. Pet stores have many options. How about a small, carpet-covered "tower" that she can climb, scratch, and nap in. The best time to change behavior is now, while she's a kitten.

My vet has decided not to declaw cats anymore because it is cruel so they have been using the caps on their mascot cat at the hospital to see how well it works to tell their clients about the alternatives.
He said in the beginning the cat was always working to get them off so they had to be replaced several times but after a while the cat got used to it and does not even bother her anymore. Kind of like collars.
It is really cute for the cat wore orange on Halloween and she is a black cat. :)

Hi Lindzyml, I've researched this awhile and most stories are successful (although I've never actually used them myself) I suggest if you're considering them to order some and try them. If he goes ballistic and gets them off instantly... you may want to reconsider. However, if he's just a little annoyed, he'll probably get used to them quite quickly. A lot of cats seem to never be bothered by them at all! Either way - so many people have amazing success stories, and it's such a great option over declawing, not to mention they don't cost too much, so you can't lose much by trying.

no, don't waste your money, the are almost impossible to put on and if you do succeed, they don't last long,as a vet tech i have seen people actually pay us more to sedate their cat and attach them than it would have cost to just declaw them. don't let people freak you out about declawing, sometimes it's the best solution, it sure beats being put down or abandoned because of a clawing problem, which sadly i've seen all too often!!as long as your cat is an indoor cat and in good health, save yourself a lot of money and anguish and get her declawed, the new laser technique is much less painful, find a vet who offers that, good luck!

I know this is not answering your question but I find it really easy to clip both of my cats claws. It's a heck of a lot cheaper. Also, make sure you have a good scratching post.

Yes, you just have to get the right size and be careful when you use the glue to attach.
