Ok, this is a follow up from my last question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AuOkXndAfVOxc9hgxCCpMH_sy6IX?qid=20070119180120AAGtASA
i went to my local gun shops, and they didn't have quite what i was looking for or the right price i was looking at, from the suggestions i got from the previous post. I went to big 5 sporting goods. they had a nice 12 gauge 18 1/2 barrel shot gun made by "Charles Daly" now i am sort of new at this gun thing, but I've never heard Charles Daily firearms. i went to there website and checked them out a little. but i was wondering if anyone could give me some info on how there guns are? how they compare to the bigger guys, Mossberg, Remington, Ruger, etc? do they have mods for Charles Daly shotguns? basically anything an amateur gun-ists needs to know before investing in this shotgun. is it worth it, or should i just wait it out for a better gun for a better price somewhere else? thanks!

I have a Chas. Daly 12 ga. semi-auto that I purchased several years ago. I have used it for everything from dove hunting to turkey and it has performed flawlessly. I do not consider them "cheap". I have also a Mossburg 835 and a Beretta all in 12 ga. and all are equal in my opinion as far as dependability goes.

I have never owned one but I can not recall ever hearing bad about them.
They have building weapons for many years.
If the price is right it would probably be a sound investment.
If it fit you needs or desires yes, if not wait.

I own a couple of Mossberg to me it is a work horse that go where I wont take my Much nicer ones.
The Mossberg I know will take a H@LL Of a beating and never give up.
Charles Daly have expensive Skeet and Trap shoot rigs.
That is where their main market is as to quality I would say as good if not better then Mossberg.
Again I am going by reputation I don’t remember having owning one.
But if I found one and it felt good to swing or shoulder and the price was fair I would jump on because of a good reputation.
As to swing or shoulder is when I go from a cross armed carry position and snap it up to my shoulder while tracking a make believe target flying high against the WALL so as never to point at any one,
I do this a couple times if it feel natural like a fluid motion it’s mine.
Note before doing this let the sells person know what you intend to do First, THEN Make sure some one before you did not load it some Fools do this for what they thank is fun, knowing that the next person might pull the trigger and hurt some one ALWAYs CHECK THE GUN and make sure it is empty both magazine and chamber for shells. Do not dry fire it is bad on any weapon.

With self defense guns - cheap is not something that comes into consideration with me. Truly, with firearms, you get what you pay for. I think you will not be very happy with the Daly firearm. The key factor to consider here is that it sounds like you are looking for a self defense shot gun. Do you really want to put your life on the line standing behind a cheap, unreliable gun? Or do you want something high-quality, high reliability that you know will work when you need it most. I have seen too many posts on Charles Daly guns jamming or coming apart unexpectedly.

For shooting clays out of the sky - you can go cheap. For possibly defending your life - money is no object. I have a Winchester 1300 Defender pump action -since discontinued by Winchester :(. Good quality, highly reliable self defense scatter gun.

Don't go on the cheap for self defense weaponry.

The self defense shotgun I would buy myself if I were to do it over (and also likely the most expensive - sorry!): The Wilson Combat SSTD-A self defense shot gun

I desire an 870 that's what I shoot my dad would not like the flinch of a pump. He shoots a Charles on a regular basis and he loves it. they're the two sturdy high quality shotguns. they are going to hold concerning the comparable value. in case you like a pump choose for the 870 in case you like an vehicle choose for the Charles on a regular basis.
