I'm a first time car buyer and before I start shopping for my dream car, I would like to hear any reviews or advice on the models. All information on the car or just on shopping for a vehicle is much appreciated as this will be my first time walking into a dealership.

Jeep Wranglers were designed for offroad use as well as highway use. Due to the short wheelbase however they tend to ride rough. Although they will get you wherever you need to or want to go, you have to realize that it is not a car and driving habits need to be changed in order to keep from rolling the vehicle, for example, don't try to drive around a corner doing 50MPH that should be taken at say 30MPH. The high ground clearance and short wheel base was designed to allow the vehicle to be more capable offroad.

The most popular and most reliable engine for this vehicle is the 4.0L inline 6 engine. This engine gives very good gas mileage, and very long life, when PROPERLY MAINTAINED. Depending on the options you choose for your vehicle, it may have a hard top, or a soft top. Depending on the area you live, if its cold you would want the hard top as they seem to fit tighter and allow the heater to work better, so you don't freeze.

Since this is your first time going to a dealership, I suggest that you take a friend or realitive with you that knows about cars. Test drive a few different models before you decide, don't just take the first one you come across. Thoroughly inspect the vehicle for obvious signs of neglect or abuse. Dents, serious scratches, missing items (knobs, switches, anything on the vehicle that doesn't work), check all accessories to be sure they work. Check the underside of the vehicle for leaks, if any are found ask as to why and what is leaking, and do not accept a vehicle that is leaking anything (the dealership should fix anything like this before you take ownership of the vehicle, and do not try to let them add the cost of the repair(s) to your invoice as its not your job to pay for something that they should have fixed or corrected before selling the vehicle). If you decide on a used vehicle follow the above items mentioned and you should come away with a pretty nice vehicle. If you get a brand new vehicle, then you shouldn't have to spend as much time going over the vehicle, but still inspect for dents, paint chips, scratches, missing items (in this case missing owners manual(s), equipment--spare tire, jack, lug wrench etc.).

PS. good luck on your car quest, and if you decide on a jeep enjoy your jeep it will be with you for many years.

If this will be your primary vehicle AND you have never driven a Wrangler before. I would advise against getting one. I have had a 73 cj5 and a 2000 wrangler, and there was very little difference in them really. They were both rough, loud and not very forgiving. The Wrangler was better but still not very comfortable. They are great off road and maneuver well in city driving, but most people would not want to commute very far in one. With that being said I will probably always have at least one jeep

I LOVE my Wrangler (06), but it does have some drawbacks that many people can't deal with. It rides harder and choppier on the road than most vehicles. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of most vehicles. The gas mileage isn't that great.....but I absolutely LOVE it!

Before you buy, you should definitely drive one for a while....they're not for everybody.

PS....My wife LOVES it too.

PSS...The resale on Jeeps is HIGH, so if you can get a new one, you won't pay that much more than for a used one, and you'll benefit greatly when you go to sell it. I bought mine (new) for $150 over invoice......Not all dealers will do that, but you CAN find a dealer that will. I'll hook you up with MY dealer, if you wanna take a trip to the coast!

Check out the websites below. These can help you with pricing. Go to your bank see what kind of loan/rate that they have to offer you for a new car loan. Be sure to get your credit score at that time. Its always good to know where your credit score stands when going to the dealer.

The first question dealers will ask you is what kind of monthly payment do you want. Don't fall in to their little trap. Negotiate a price for the car first. Find out what kind of APR they have to offer. Then you can figure out the down payment and monthly payment.

I would also check out AAA. They could do it all for you. They buy the cars for you at a lower cost. They also have what seems to be real low APRs.

But you will need to go to the dealer to test drive. Just do your homework and you won't feel like you got bit in the *** later.

The '07 Wranglers are a big improvement over the earlier generations, and is the first year for the 4-door and the modular Freedom top option. Get one with a manual transmission, and upgrade to the full-size front doors even if you don't get a hardtop.

Stay away from a Wrangler as your 'first' vehicle. You don't need to go four-wheeling, do you? Nor do you need something with that ground clearence. The higher your C/G the more skill it takes to safely operate.
