It is not widely accepted that religion is intolerant trash. SOME intolerant people believe that.
If you have to be so critical of other people's views it suggests that you are somewhat unsure of your own.
If what you believe is valid and valuable there would bw no need to knock other's views.
Sorry, but it does betray a level of immaturity. Reasoned argument is by far another thing. Why not try it?
By the way, would you call Newton. Kepler, Terilhard de Chardin, etc 'mental filth;? If so, what level of mental understanding do you aim for?

Sure. Though you may find a lot of people disagree with you.

On a purely practical point, I am finding it hard to get my head around the concept of "mental filth".

Do you mean some sort of obscenity? Or perhaps detritus?

Just that if you wanted a debate a definition of terms might help. But if you were just asking 'can I?' then I guess that's unnecessary.

As a protaganist of both the religious right and left (both public and secret) my answer to you is "Absolutly, you have the right"...if the religionist have the right to propose that your position is also mental filth... They "may not" be using these exact words (about you and people like you) as you are using them ("mental filth") ... but truly, they will use any means (usually civil) to get their point across to the masses of which you and I have been caught up in. Bless you in your quest to maintain your position...Ed.

You have the right to say anything in America, but why would you feel the need to say that? Nobody is forcing you to be religious or believe, but just as you have the right, we (Christians) also have the right to say whatever we want. I love Jesus. I believe that He died for my sins and is my savior. Was the purpose of your question just to say you think religion is mental filth? God bless you.

You most certainly should do, and I believe do. However, if you want to be listened to you'd be wise to support the statement with an argument including examples. You should find that's phenomenally easy.

You have a right to say it, but you don't have a right to be heard.
If you say it to people who close their ears, then what benefit was it in the first place.

If you stand in the middle of a crowd and call them bad names, you can't yell unfair when they attack you.
I am sure that some would.

You may as long as you don't use it to personally insult someone. However I think you could be a little more subtle and articulate in your statement. I will defend your right to say what you have said, but I don't agree with a word of it.

Of course, you have the right to say that. Just remember that others have the right to disagree with you and say what their beliefs are. Equality to all people often means agreeing to disagree.

You don't have freedom of speech in the UK? Are you sure?

I'm from America. I believe in the one true God and the only way to Him, by His son Jesus. So I disagree with what you are saying. But in my country, we are allowed to stand and give our opinions. So, if that is yours, okay.

You have the right to say anything you want...that is the beauty of the first amendment of the US Constitution...The Right to Freedom of Speech. But, be prepared for a lot of backlash from people who don't agree with you (their right as well to voice their opinion) and be ready to hear that lots of people are going to pray for you so that you will accept Christ in your life. Good luck!!
