Mirena is a iuc. I really don't want anymore children after I deliver in June that will make baby # 3.
I am so scared to get my tubes tied. I was on the pill and patch and had my son and daughter that way.
The shot made me gain a 150 lbs.
I was wondering what a iuc was? How does the Dr put it in and does it hurt? Can you feel it after it is in? Does it really stop your period? sorry so many questions talked to my dr and he said will discuss it after i deliver.

I've had the mirena for nearly 2 years now. It's an IUD. It's a T-shaped device that a doctor will insert into your cervix. The IUD works as a barrier and a hormonal birth control as well. It doesn't hurt. The only thing you can feel are the threads that hang from it. You are supposed to check to make sure those threads can be felt ever so often. My periods haven't completely stopped, but I never know when I'll get one. Some months I won't have a period; other months I'll have one for a couple of days. Good luck.

Edit: I have two daughters. One of them was conceived while I was on the patch, my youngest was conceived while I was using the nuva ring.

The mirena iud is what I'm going to use because I don't trust the pill and I'm not ready to have another baby. I don't have it yet, but from what I've heard, it is very safe and reliable. It is a flexible t-shaped device that your doctor inserts into the uterus, usually while you are menstruating. It lasts for 5 years. It can stop your period, but for some women it just makes the period shorter and lighter. The doctor puts it in and it's relatively painless, and you may experience some cramping or spotting in the days after insertion. You can also have a little bit of irregular bleeding for around the first 3 months after insertion. You can't feel it once it is in there.

You mean the iud? I have the mirena. The doctor will insert it and you might feel a little pull or cramp, but it's not bad. I couldn't feel it (even though I'm the type to freak over a splinter). It hasn't stopped my period (I've had it for two years) but it is much lighter, only last three days, and may take 5 to 6 weeks to come rather than evey month.

I think it's wonderful because I don't have to worry about getting pregnant for five years, but if my husband and I decide to have anymore, it can be removed (by a doc) whenever you wish.

I have it and I love it. I was on the mini pill (progesterone only) and it made me moody and fat, hah. the mirena is progesterone only but has 1/7th of the amount of it in it so it's very, very low dose. it has no estrogen. it's more effective (comparable to sterilization) and it is _SO_ nice not having to remember to take something every day. the only con was that it sort of hurt to put in (slightly more than a regular pap) and it made me a little dizzy for the rest of the day. you might have some cramping. I had a regular period a week later and then a month and a half after that, and both were very light. I love it, I'm responding well to it and I haven't done well with other bc's. reviews online are horrible for everything ;)
