I have always believed the bible was a bunch of Mythology... but maybe my understanding of the bible is not extensive enough to believe otherwise. What physical evidence exist that might change my position?

As I was watching a program on the discovery channel thew following thought ocurred to me: Why don't I have a difficult time believing that Ceasar or the ancient Mayans existed? Maybe If I educate myself more about the history I will be more inclined to believe this whole bible thing.

No Paul. Why are you so certain that the Da Vinci code is fiction. Actually it was my watching a special on the Da vinci code which prompted me to POSSIBLY reconsider my religious beliefs as an atheist

The Bible is proof in itself. There is no proof of any God anywhere. You must believe and know by your faith that Jesus Christ is real and died for our sins.

The Bible is a book of (fictional) stories, NOT a theory NOR a hypothesis.

Mentioning places that really exist or events that really occured does NOT make a story true or the characters real. "Gone With the Wind" takes place in Georgia (which exists) during the Civil War (which happened). Do you think that makes it true? Of course not. The Ancient Greek myths refer to Mount Olympus. Does that prove to you that Zeus and all the other Greek gods are real?

Most fictional books are set in places that really exist, refer to people that really exist, and to events that actually have happened. That doesn't make them true. Thus, that is NOT evidence.

Evolution does NOT claim that people came from apes. Anyone who says stuff like that is clearly ignorant, and proves that the public schools NEED to teach about Evolution so students won't be so confused about the facts.

Animals don't make cars because they don't need them, but they DO communicate. If humans were smarter than animals, WE would be able to understand THEIR language. As it is, a dog understands human language better than a human infant does.

The earth is the physical evidence.Think about this; you obviously have a computer, is that not physical evidence that some one other than yourself made it.I know I did not build my computer but I do know that it was made because I am using it.Now could it be possible to take all the components of a computer, put it in a box ,let it sit for 1 million years and end up with a computer. The answer is of course no.In the same way the earth was made, some one greater than ourselves had to make it.Do not be so arrogant to think that mankind is the Almighty force that drives the universe. That is the kind of thinking that sunk the unsinkable ship(Titanic) and destroyed the tower of Babel.

As for the best example of whether the Bible is true or not, I give you the Human Brain.

Studies, like that done by the University of Michigan, and features in the Discovery Channel program, The Amazing Life of the Human Brain, shows just how amazing the human brain is.

Every second while awake, we are absorbing 40MBs of data per second. That’s 144 gigabytes per hour and about 2 terabytes per day. That’s a lot of data even for the largest computer. When we sleep at night, and only at night or under nighttime conditions, all that data is sorted and stored through the creation of synaptic connectors and biochemical bounds. The brain has enough volume to allow for the creation of these storage connectors to last over 10,000 years.

Without the need of a creator, what evolutionary pressure could cause the need for this much volume that would take that long to fill? Clearly, man was either created by God to live that long, or if evolve, once lived that long, and has since de-evolved to what we are today. Which do you think it is?

Evolution does take place, in that animals have evolved and humans have de-evolved since the time of the creation. Many divergent species are related, such as the Meerkat/Hyena and the Lion/House cat. A house cat can breed with a lion, I wonder if the same is possible the Hyena and Meerkat?

This is why I believe in God. I use the brain he gave me, and designed for me, to determine something beyond imagining.

About which"theory" do you inquire? There is much evidence to support the authenticity and complete accuracy of the entire Bible. More so than any other ancient document. Fulfilled prophecies -such as the Nation of Israel, the Jewish people and the numerous prophecies fulfilled by Jesus Christ, prove that the Bible is indeed the Word of Almighty God. True science always supports the Bible and, unlike evolution, the Bible doesn't resort to fraud in an attempt to prove itself -ie:Piltdown Man and Nebraska Man. The Hubble space telescope has sent back photographic evidence which proves a very young universe and destroys Hubble Law -upon which the Big Bang theory is founded. Geological clocks show that the earth is only thousands of years old, not billions. Christianity alone worships a Saviour who has risen from the dead.

I think a really good start would be a replication of the claim in 1 Kings 18, where the Bible claims that because of Elijah's prayer, God sent fire from heaven to consume an altar, thus proving His existence and power (despite the fact that Christians here love to protest that God is not to be put to the test - it's right there in the Bible, folks).

So let's have the Christians build an altar and pray for God to send fire from heaven to consume it. If they're as sure of themselves as they claim to be, they can take up the other part of the Bible story as well, and agree to be executed as false prophets (as Elijah had done to the prophets of Baal, who'd failed this test) if God doesn't come through.

I have a sneaking suspicion that their unshakeable faith in the Bible stops short of a willingness to have their beliefs tested like this, though. It's really just like psychics and mediums and everyone else with supernatural claims - they learn to talk real fast when the question of testing is brought up.

No it is not attainable, and specific religious people won't be able to stability awareness and faith besides as being thoroughly blinded via faith , the bible won't be able to prepare something by way of fact it extremely is all per some thing that's only nonsense. i'm no longer saying that I back evolution one hundred% because no you would be that specific of themselves on how existence began yet i do locate that there is compelling evidence. Evolution is likewise relatively respected interior the technological know-how community, and so a techniques the main available and logical decision If all people actually needs to latch onto a proof as to how we've been given here. And as for the bibles tale as to how all of us have been given here i do no longer understand why a guy or woman that's knowledgeable and has a minimum of the best judgment of a universal grader could even see the slightest hair of actuality in it, come on, it says we began from a pile of dirt and a rib and that the mystical bearded guy interior the sky's the guy who did it with magical powers... sufficient mentioned on that, I see which you mentioned which you have been born right into a christian kin and which you went to a catholic college, so it pleasantly surprises me which you have an open techniques even however they have in all probability been beating the Adam & eve tale into your cranium because you have been sufficiently old to stroll yet your question might desire to in no way extremely get spoke back reason there'll constantly be bible enthusiasts who think of each and every word is the certainty and could maximum possibly think of of something to counter any variety of scientific evidence, my widespread one is "evolution is authentic, yet god did it."... lol stupid Christians Edit:--ComMed you mentioned "bear in techniques if Evolution replaced right into a actuality it does no longer be referred to as a thought!"... do you have a techniques deficiency... A thought is the main tricky variety of consistent scientific awareness no longer yet disproved via test and with what you mentioned you in all probability nevertheless dont think of gravity is authentic, it extremely is only the Gravitational thought after all.

Many of the cities and land marks have been found by Archaeologists. The Coptic Scrolls of Nag Hammadi, and the Dead Sea Scrolls have shown us that several of the people mentioned in the Bible did exist, as well as some of the events.
Proof has been found of a world wide flood. Several cultures have flood and Noah type stories/legends. There is physical evidence to prove at least this much of it.
The word "Myth" had a much different meaning than it does today. In ancient times, a myth would be equated to a legend today. There is always a portion of truth to it.

However, much of the other stuff is a political slant aimed at gaining, and keeping, followers.

Geez - where to begin?

The geography of the Garden of Eden has been discovered in northern Iran. Archaeology has confirmed a local flood covering southern Mesopotamia around 2500 BC. Sumerian civilization has been discovered, as has the ancient Babylonian Empire. The land of Mari has been confirmed, as well as the local customs described in Genesis. Imhotep lines up with the Biblical Joseph. The fact that Egyptians boiled straw to make bricks from the sap. Egptian references to the 'Habiru' who crossed the 'Sea of Reeds.' Pillars of smoke and fire used by Egyptian standard-bearers. The colapse of the walls of Jericho. Mt. Sinai with twelve stones erected at the foot (in Saudi Arabia). The location of the Tabernacle in Jordan. Evidence that the Jordan River changed course at the time of the conquest of Canaan. The conquest of Canaan. References to King David. The eruption of Thera at the same time as the Exodus. Evidence of the Philistines. References to Nebuchadnezzar. The Biblical account of Hamurabi. The existence of Pontius Pilate, procurator of Judea. Caiaphas the high priest.

Study the subject. While detailed accounts of specific events are unconfirmed, the overall history and chronology of the Bible has been confirmed over and over again.

there ARE amazing things like some pottery and ruins of civilizations mentioned in the bible. these things are mentioned in secular texts as well. hmmm... nothing that spectacular really. none of the GOOD stuff remained like the Ark, or proof of the jews in Egypt during the time of Moses... no proof that jesus was miraculous (like say Mt. Sinai having been moved, or an accurate and specific foretelling of the future.)... only things like pottery. and you'd think for sure that a people obsessed with chronology and geneology would have kept SOME of the artifacts!!!!! no one even knows where the Ark of the Covenant disappeared to... but we have pottery... the most mundane of all things of the ancients.

In God's inspired Word, He tells us that his creations are evidence of his existence so that no human will have an "excuse" not to believe in him. It goes on to say, that even though proof is everywhere(nature, galaxies, etc), many will still foolishly deny God, and choose to worship his creations instead.

1 Cor. 2:14 tells us that the natural man does not receive the things of God they are foolishness to him.

Here are a few verses from the first chapter of Romans(the entire chapter is worth reading):

"Since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images(paganism, etc) made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles". ttp://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=romans%201:18-32&version=31

There is plenty of EVIDENCE! The problem is that human pride causes many not to acknowledge the Lord, because they do not want to live according to God's Word. Evidence is for Believers to strenghten their faith, not to convince Unbelievers to change.

If your parent or spouse were gone 12-15 hours a day working, and each time you returned home there was new clothing, kitchen stocked with food, working utilities, and more, would you foolishly reason that it came out of no where....or was a gift from nature, or would you know that your parent or spouse had provided these things? The Lord is no different.

Look around you...there is your plenty of evidence! The question is: will you acknowledge it?
