After installing Norton 2007, major problems; RESTORE would not go back to several different dates. I then uninstalled Norton and restored to a date a week earlier. Problems persist, some Symantec driver does not initialize, and Windows RESTORE now does not pop up or when it pops up the RESTORE window is empty. It's on my 1.5 year old Toshiba QOSMIO with bells and whistles.

Many computer experts recommend a hard drive reformat at least once a year. Reformatting the hard drive cleans out the Windows registry and removes any problem causing files.

Reformat the hard drive to return your computer to its original configuration. Reinstalling Windows and other applications after a hard drive reformat may repair previously unfixable problems.

Download a Norton Removal Tool from Symantec, that will take care of your problems with Norton 2007.

Windows' System Restore seldom does fix everything wrong with Windows XP, it just exacerbate the problems you already have. It also save bad symantec drivers as well (even viruses!). I just turn off System Restore on all of my computers.

reinstall the sp1 or 2 as appropriate for windows xp... that will restore original files. also norton has an uninstall option available from their website to remove a corrupt norton install. you will have to dig tho. I don't have the bookmark anymore and it is specific to the version being uninstalled as is activex control. it requires IE 5.5 or higher.

Sounds a bit messy. You can try a "repair install" from the original disc, but that does not always work well.

Best way is this: Save off all your important files and data. The re-format and start windows install from new.

2 ideas i could attempt. 1st - in case you have the unique homestead windows disc attempt besides from that disc and choose restore homestead windows. 2d -in case you won't be in a position to do the above i could eliminate the stressful force and connect it to a different workstation as a slave gadget and reproduction over all your records, normaly in 'My archives' folder. Then replace the HDD an reinstall a clean reproduction of homestead windows. good success.

if all fails back up the important files and do a clean install, sometimes it could take hours to diagnose and fix a faulty operating system.
