Well,... as I tell my 4 year old..

When you flush your dookie and pee pee, it goes under ground and travels to the Dookie Factory.. where hard working men and women work very hard to clean up the water and put the water in plastic bottles and put labels on them... like Dasani, and Fiji, and Deer Park, and Evian.. so you have nice clean dookie water to drink the next day! ;)

It depends where you live.

In cities, it goes into the sewer system where it eventually flows into a treatment plant. Outside of cities, it may flow into a septic tank -- where it is treated and stored. Septic tanks must be emptied periodically.

You can read about both systems below.

Into the sanitary sewer system. Eventually it is sent to a sewage treatment plant to be cleaned up.

That's unless your home has a septic tank in which case it goes into that and is eventually pumped out.

IT goes to the sewer then from the sewer to the city's water treatment plant where it is filtered.
