The Bronx is part of New York City, NY. Do you mean from Manhattan Island? Depends on which part of the Bronx and which part of Manhattan. It ranges from about 50 yards from Northern Manhattan to about 7-12 miles to lower Manhattan.

From my High School (JFK) in the Bronx you could throw a rock across the river and hit the very northern part of Manhattan Island (NYC, NY).
It's across the Spuyten Duyvill, a narrow channel dug out for shipping at the very top of Manhattan.
Basically, they are very close.

Bronx is part of NYC, NY, but if by NYC you mean Manhattan, the Bronx is just north of it, and easily reachable by subway.

NYC is pretty big. So it depends on where you are in NYC. From midtown by train (you have to take about 3 trains by the way) it's about 2 hours.
