does it? if i jog 2 miles in the morning and then 2 at night, do i lose less weight than by jogging 4 miles all at one time?

It all comes down to calories. 4 one mile runs will burn just as many calories assuming the same effort on all 4. You may even burn more calories because you can work harder for a shorter time. What breaking your workout in two won't do is build as much endurance. So, after you get the weight down, try for longer runs in one shot to build some endurance.

4 miles at once is better since you are keeping your heart rate up for a longer time.
