There is a particular type of salsa (not what you find bottled as "salsa verde") that I see often in good taquerias. It is a green salsa, with a bit of spice, and an almost creamy consistency.

It looks somewhat like what you see in this picture:

Does anyone have a good (even if difficult) recipe for this type of salsa?

Does anyone know if it has a specific name?

Thanks to the first two posters. I actually have made the typical "salsa verde" as your two recipes suggest. But my results are a salsa that isn't quite as creamy as the one I'm looking for.

I'm not sure if the picture I included is exactly what I'm looking for either.

Perhaps there is a little avocado or crema in the one I'm talking about?

I think this is the one you may be looking for because I know what you mean about the creamy consistency. Here is my favorite green salsa recipe.

Green Avocado Salsa

"This is the ultimate fresh, green salsa. The addition of avocado gives it a wonderful creaminess!"

Original recipe yield:
2 cups

PREP TIME 30 Min
READY IN 30 Min

INGREDIENTS
1/3 cup water
1 tsp salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
3/4 cup chopped onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 medium fresh jalapeno peppers, seeded, deveined, and finely minced
1 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 avocado, peeled and pitted
1/2 pound tomatillos, husked and chopped

DIRECTIONS
Place the water, salt, pepper, onion, garlic, jalapenos, cilantro, avocado, and tomatillos in a blender, or the bowl of a food processor. Puree or process to desired consistency, adding more water as needed. You may also add chopped onion and cilantro to the finished salsa.
Serve immediately.

It is called "salsa verde." Super easy to make.
It's made with "tomatillos" which are a small, green type of tomatoes (use about 10).
The salsa also has onion (1/2 of a white onion), cilantro (a big handful....gives it an awesome flavor), and serrano peppers (about 2 or more, depending on how hot you want it).
You put all the ingredients in a blender with about 1/2 a cup of water and a dash of salt. Then, you pour it on a pot and bring to a boil for about 5 minutes...you should see the color change once it's cooked; this will make it last longer. Let it cool, then refrigerate.
Buen Provecho! (enjoy) :)

1/2 cup finely chopped white onion
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro

That would be SALSA VERDE. Her is a nice recipe ...
Salsa Verde
1 pound tomatillos
2 small chiles
1/4 cup green onions, chopped
1 cup fresh cilantro
salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 clove garlic, peeled (optional)

Remove dry paperlike skins from tomatillos. Coarsely puree uncooked tomatillos, chiles, green onions, cilantro leaves, and garlic in blender. Season with salt to taste and add 1 teaspoon sugar. Serve with soft tacos or burritos and as a dip for corn chips.

You can also use it with fried chicken, pan fried pork chops, and pan fried potatoes.

Absolutely

1/2 lb fresh cayenne peppers
1/2 lb habenero peppers
1/2 lb jalepeno peppers
1 small onion
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tsp salt
what peppers and remove stem....in food processor....combine all ingredients and grind....If too dry, add vinegar as needed....pour into saucepan and cook on stove top.....let it simmer for an hour after the color changes....then pour into clean jars and seal.....
If you want to tone down the "hot" of it.....add a few fresh tomatillos, maybe 4 or 5 to mixture...This is delicious on tacos!!!!
Made about 30 pints of this last summer for hubby!!!! Good stuff....but too hot for me!!!
