When I lived in Alaska it was super dry in the winter. Before drying off from the shower I'd take straight vasoline and rub it in everywhere I could reach. Also Crisco works well as a super moisturizer. I used it to take off eye make-up too. Get a humidifier for your bedroom if haven't already.

I am a firn believer in natural products, and have looked for years to prevent dry, flaky skin (snowy cold climate as well). Try Badger Balm, www.badgerbalm.com is their web site to read about the different kinds, they have olive-oil based balms that are fantastic and the Body Butter is the only thing that I have found to work on me, ingredients are good for your skin too - no chemicals.

Baby oil...put it all over your body, before you dry off from your shower. Also, lubriderm is a great lotion. You might also put that on the problem areas after you dry. humidifier...or boiling hot water in the house...or letting the shower steam up....can help. Drink LOTS of water...esp if you are at higher elevations. Moisture on the inside can help moisture on the outside!
Good Luck

I've recently read that it is best to apply olive oil before showering.

These steps help heal my dry skin on my face:
~Wash with Cetaphil Cleanser.
~Use a gentle Alcohol-Free Toner (many brands make this. I use L'Oreal or Neutrogena).
~Apply Fragance-Free moisturizer, like CETAPHIL or LUBRIDERM Sensitive Skin.
~Your doctor might give u Elidel cream if u have signs of Eczema.
