I think giving him up before exhausting all other avenues is a bit drastic. As someone suggested, obedience training may be the answer, or even removing the dog from the presence of others. You might see if any of your friends would consider assisting you in training your dog by interacting with him while your provide discipline and positive reinforcement. I really do believe there are measures that you can take to correct the problem without your having to give up your pet. Good luck to you.

You need to get professional training. Never hit your dog it will make him more aggressive!
When you friend comes over have your dog leashed and some one holding your dog. Let you friend walk in the room. As soon as your dog shows aggression grab your dogs noise and say WRONG!
Also you can always just put your dog in another room or in a crate if you have one.
I would stay away from putting him up for adoption. Since he is aggressive it makes his chances less to get a new home.

lol dont do what she said you might kill the poor thing! lol that was funny but anyways.....
tell your friends that when your dog does that tell them to make it seem like it is a big deal. and you should go over the top when your dog does that. dont hit it or nothing just make it seem like your really mad at him and when he doesnt do it, reward it with a treat that should work. i seen it on that show on animal planet called "Barking mad"

TRIED to train him? How about a professional obedience class with someone who knows what they're doing?

If he is hurting your friends, then you may have to put him in a room behind close doors when they come over. If he is a real bitter, consider a trainer.

Ouch....try profesional obeidence, or just grab him by the neck, and say no, then put him in a room, or put him in the room before your friends come over.
