My fastest was only a 2:52. This was my first year in track. Is this good? How to I lower my time and what's the best 800m technique while racing?

For a first timer that is not bad. You want to enhance what you are best at. Some 800 m runners are about endurance, some are about speed, some are about technique and strength. It is a brutal race. Accept the pain, don't fight it. Shoot for a time of around 2:30 or less. The winter is the time to prepare. Good luck. My philosphy on the 800, get a good start, run steady in the middle, and finish hard, especially in the last 150 to 100 meters. Remember, this is a race where you do not have a whole lot of time to think. Good luck.

It's a fairly good time for a first year runner, but you can probably do lots better! Try to shave off at least 20-30 seconds this season, if not more. A good way to do this is just to do the work-outs for track-your coach should be having you do work-outs that can help build the speed and stamina needed for the 800m, which has lately turned into a sprinting event for distance runners. :) Good luck!

your time is not bad for a freshman three years from now you should be right at 2;00 or under analyze your race and see where you are weak and where you are strong and work on improving your weakness try being up in at least 2-3 by the time you get to the end of the first 200 a lot of runner are real slow at the start and the 800 is almost a sprint for the really good runners

there 3 girls who can break 2:25 at my school, and 2 of them have broken 2:18. But hey, they qualified for nationals already in multiple events so its probably an unfair comparison.
Anyway, for a freshman girl i think that's a solid time, and if you managed to take 10-15 seconds off over the next few years that would be great.
If you're running in a relay it helps to stick with someone that you know is good for the 800, and let them pace you. If you enter yourself in a fast heat there will be a lot of girls who can pace you. Also, I it's important to be mentally focused. The 800 is a painful race and you must understand that in order to succeed, you have to be uncomfortable. Good Luck!!!!

no 2:18 is considered average on a state level to win state we are talking sub 1:10 2:56 is fast but not on a competition level. But I'm sure that if you can run2:52, then you can run faster. Try doing 400 repeats, and 800 repeats. getting your mile time down will lower your 800 time too

if your're in highschool you should def. try to lower it. at least to under 2:35 or somewhere around there. thats a pretty good time and 2:15 is really good. if you cant lower it and you're a sprinter try shorter races or if your a distance runner try the 1 or 2 mile.

if you're in like 7th or 8th grade it is ok. once you are on varsity, you will need to cut it down to about 2:00-2:05. Try running with a weighted jacket, do a cardio lifting program and run run and run. the 800 has become more of a sprint rather than a paced run.

I think you had a good time for for your first year. Try to incorporate some 100 meter fartlicks into your training, it should help your speed. Good luck

in case you prefer to win, you gotta be there on the 800. everybody on right here who's telling you to take it much less annoying for the 1st lap is erroneous. with the intention to win or place in an 800m, attempt to be staggering 4 on the 400m. the only thank you to run an 800m is to run like your gonna win. Passive working, contained in the 800m is the downfall of many good runners. that's okay to be passive contained in the 1600m, yet no longer contained in the 800m. you ought to upward thrust up after it immediately on the initiating. commence you kick with 200m-300m to pass. have self belief me. it is the way you run/win races: Kick (commence), Stick (midsection), Kick (end) Kick: Get your self contained in the "funds". Be in medal opposition Stick: carry place, do no longer fall lower back after the kick, persist with the lead runners. Kick: once you experience it, you pass and desire to God that your sort holds up those final 10m of hell.
