yuck! I guess if those are the only options than messy.... but personally I think that you are getting too old to be doing either. At 39 you should be asking something to the affect of how can I look more professional? Plus spike hasn't been "in" in years and looks wierd the older you get.

i think spike would look too much like youre trying to look young
dont make it too messy though, brush it a little if you need to

i would say messy... spiked is more of a young teen look... and not many people use it as much.
