Jujutsu is a war art that has many aspects such as striking , kicking, joint locks , throws, ground fighting , and killing techniques.
When people say jujutsu is not good against multiple attackers they are referring to modern jujutsu . Judo is a more sport oriented type of jujutsu . I believe most judo schools don't teach striking until black belt level.
I believe original jujutsu could be very effective against more then one attacker .

Grappling generally relies on chokes & joint locks. Thes take time. When you are facing multiple attackers, you don't have time. While you are trying to choke 1 enemy into unconsciousness, another will attack you & you will lose.
Striking is done much more quickly. a good kick or punch can deter an attacker long enough for you to deal with others.
That said, it is still bad to be outnumbered.
Samurai were trained primarily to fight with weapons. Empty handed MA in Japan didn't exist until the mid 19th century.

Many people envision a combat style where two people go to the ground and jockey for an advantageous position when they heard the words Jui jitsu.
You are correct, originally Jui jitsu was a style that contained striking as well as grappling but modern popular sporting events have made people focus on the ground aspects.

Why grappling arts aren't good against multiple attackers? I guess you know how to do 2 armbars at once, while trying to bring the 3rd guy to the floor? While you're rolling around on the floor with one guy, the rest will run up and proceed to maul you.

i think judo is good along with striking art you have to be a complete fighter regardless one on one or not. if there many people striking to keep them at bay is good but people rushing in will close distance and the body control from judo is good as is throwing fromt a clinch . then return to striking.

samurai had the honor to wait their turn, they didnt all rush the guy fighting their friend.
now move through time to this week... you grapple me, you may even get me in a lock, and then my mates beat the **** out of you before I am unconscious.
this is why it is an art that is limited to its definition (like every style) and in this case it is limited to one at a time.
sure, you can punch, kick, and knock out people in a multiple attack, but if you start to hold for too long on one guy you are going to get wasted.
fighting is no longer a thing with honor, but a case of winner takes all, and in going from A to B, whatever gets us there faster will be how we will accomplish it.

samurai did not limit themselves to any1 style.and common sense tells you that grappling and ground arn't practicle against multiple opponents.and in case ppl dont realise that doesn't mean anyone is knocking there style.i wish ppl would read things properly before they get on thier high horse and start bumping there gums about nothing.

The ground fighting aspects of these arts are probably what people are referring to. Think if you are on the ground playing grab a.s with one attacker that you can defend your self against the second attacker....

Absolutely not good against multiple attackers since you have to grasp your enemy. What do you think the other attackers are going to do? Wait until you're finished like in the movies?
