Why do they say Love is from the heart, when it's really what you feel. Why is it that the heart skips, but it's just a feeling. Our heart beats but it doesn't tell us who to love. So, why do they say love is from the heart?

It's just an expression.

This was a great question. If you really think of it in the most basic of terms, the only thing the heart does is give us life by pumping blood and oxygen throughtout our bodies. When I express that love comes from my heart, I am in fact saying that it comes from the heart of my being which is the heart that keeps the life flowing within my veins. Love is just love. No one can control it. You can not tell it when to start or when to stop. Some people can not even handle it, so they run from it. Love is actually an emotion that you experience through feelings. While it can be the most wonderful feeling in the world with physical affects that are undenably exillarting, it can also be very hurtful. These emotions are all part of what makes us who we are. We can not escape them. At one point we will expeience them. You are correct in saying that the heart does not tell us who to love, thus the point i made earlier about not being able to tell it to start or when to stop. Love does not know color, religion, or boundries. When you give your love, if you can feel that feeling deep within your chest and abdomen, this to is a part of why they say it comes from the heart. All of this really orginates in the brain which has to have oxygen to survive which is pumped to it by the heart. When you feel that feeling in your chest and abdomen you are experiencing the connection between your brain and your heart and it prompts you to want more, just as anger, fear, and stress prompts you to perpare for fight or flight. Thus again the saying from the heart. No love has ever made my heart skip a beat per say, but it has made me feel like I am floating which gives me this warming feeling within my chest which is one more reason I say it comes from my heart. There may be connections between that and the celebration of St. Valentines day to be honest, but for me it is all based on the epitome of my physical reaction to emotions. I hope that this helped you get a better understanding of love coming from the heart.

It comes from the fact that during the ancient times, particularly in Rome, Greece and Egypt, the heart was thought to be the organ that produced emotions such as love rather than the brain.

Brain depicts the sensibility while heart depicts our feelings and emotions. Besides when you love sb your heart is beating quicker! You just must be familiar with your self and heart to catch the signs of the heart!!

it is a metaphor, hearts just represent love, when people say that, they do not mean the heart in your body that pumps blood, but you emotional heart (which, yes, is the same as your feelings), it just represents feelings. The heart is what makes the body work and flow, it is the source of your life--- so wouldnt that mean that the center of your emotions is your heart?

Because it is the heart that hurts when you lose someone(thing) you love, please keep the brain out of this situation, it doesn't belong there, you have to learn to feel with your heart and not your brain, there is a diffference...
