I adopted my cat a year ago when he was 3 years old. He has always been very talkative, but just keeps getting worse. I try not to encourage him by talking back, but it doesn't seem to help. It is just non stop sometimes and he even gets in my face at night and essentially is yelling at me wanting attention. I love him to death, but I just need him to be quiet sometimes. Any suggestions?

That's funny, my cat does that to, just talk to ham, and hold him, maby you should buy him a nice big Kennel with warm blankets and put him in there at night, that way you can move him out of your room at night.

Sounds like your cat is trying to tell you something. If you started talking back to him, would that stop his meowing and satisy him for a while? Maybe that's what he's missing.

I had a stray that I tried to place who was talkitive as well. It can be difficult. Try to distract the cat, perhaps a catnip toy or coat a toy with catnip to get your cats attention. That is, if the cat like catnip.

Be glad you have an affectionate cat, sometimes that's few and far between.

My male cat is very vocal more so at night, I gave him toys with strings on them and he talks up a storm to them and drags them around, when he gets to loud I make a psssst noise, my son taught me this trick and it works. I do enjoy his talking though it's really as if he wants to have a conversation with me. So talk to him lots during the day and give him his night time toy and do pssst sound when he wakens you. It will work after some time and patience. Good luck

my sister has a cat that is the same way. Except she doesn't have a nice little meow, it sounds like she is dying. My sister deals with it during the day and at night leaves a squirt gun next to her bed. Its an easy way for her to remind her cat that it is sleepy time.

Just be happy that he is talking to you. Some cats are just more talkative than others, such as the Siamese. Maybe he has some of that bloodline in him. There are times that I wish my cats would talk to me more than they do ( mine are not very talkative) Just make sure to give him lots of attention.

You need to give him more attention. He doesn't belong to you. You belong to him. Get used to it. That's the way cats are.
