I have a yorkie who is about 3 pounds overweight. It doesn't seem like much but for a little dog it is. I never give her people food except for the occasional carrots that she loves!

Our vet recommended that she have more exercise. My husband tries to walk her daily. She just loves it. We also try to throw her rope and ball and play fetch while we are watching tv.

We feed her Eukanuba. We have started using a measuring cup to measure her food so she is not overfed.

Our vet also recommended that if the above doesn't work to switch to the 'diet' or low fat Eukanba version. We haven't done this yet, but it's our next step.

usually, what the bag of dog food says to feed them is too much. cut it back by 1/2 & see how she does. don't get weight control dog food-it just has more filler, which doesn't help. make her play more. cut out treats as much as possible or cut them in 1/2 or smaller. yep, plain old diet & exercise. are you sure she's overweight & doesn't just have that hanging down belly thing? their bodies change a lot after birth. & a little extra while she's still breeding is OK, but not too much. one extra pound on a 5 pound dog is like Paris Hilton with 60 extra pounds. :)

Best place to start- Your VET
A checkup never hurts. While there, talk to your vet about your concerns. Your vet can give you suggestions and maybe even suggest a better diet for your dog that won't add weight.

Taking your dog for a walk can be good too as long as the dog doesn't tire too easily. Again, always good to check with the vet first.

Yes, definitely! My aunt's dog has lost a lot of weight recently. With diet foods, walks, and a little encouragement your dog can lose weight.( sounds like a cheezy commercial! XD) Although some dogs lose weight quicker than others. Hope this helped.

Are you using her for breeding? You said since her last litter she has gained some pounds. Don't use her as a "puppy factory".
Treat her as a love-able, adorable, addition to your household. Let her relax, take her outside and walk - it will do her and you both some good.
Don't treat her with "people" food; treat her with dog treats (I got into that one too much).
Cut the portions down a little each day, to the amount she should be eating.
It takes a while, but she will be more healthy and you will feel so much more wonderful.
As much as I have hated it, I had to use this kind of "tough love" (like it's really that tough) on my "Reddog".
He is 14 and still going and we still have this companionship that will never be compromised

We have the same kind! Unfortunately, like humans, diet and exercise are the best options. Eukanuba and Iams both make good food for sedintary dogs. No table scaps, and if you need to give her a treat get low fat doggie treats and give her only half. (I know, it's sooooo hard!) Try to get her walked or outside as often as possible,if you're not already doing that.
