A friends Pom mix had several puppies premature and won't nurse them. The family has been feeding them the correct milk every 3 hours. One of them has started having siezures and will stop breathing. She's brought back each time. The vet said to give it some honey. They said the puppy is having trouble swallowing the milk, it keeps coming back up some. She needs real advise. The vet hasn't returned their call as of yet. ASAP

They have been to the vet, but he can't do any more then the family already is. He confirmed they are premature. They've already lost 3 of 5. We only have an animal shelter in our area and they're closed until Tuesday. I know those at the shelter and they'd put them down. They don't have the staff for something like this. We only have one animal control agent for our county. The puppies were born 3 days ago.

The vet has contacted them and told them to only place a drop at a time in the one puppy's mouth. The other puppy is doing well. She breeds these dogs and has never had this problem before. I was just told her other female is due to deliver any time. She may be able to get this dog to adopt these two if they make it and the female delivers soon.

So sorry to about your friend's issue with her pups but you are such a good friend.
Here is a very helpful link on pet issues. If she would like to learn about tube-feeding. It will go to the tube-feeding link it shows pics and everything. Your friend can get these supplies from the vet and she should get extras to keep on hand should she ever need them later for other litters.
However my suggestion is that she use an eye-dropper ( get from the vet - used for liquid meds). When I had to feed my 1/2 oz Chihuahua pup at 2 weeks of age I preferred an eye dropper to the bottle or syringe. You can control the drop size better and you have more control over the situation. Tell her to make sure the pup stays laid out and not curled up. The head, neck and spine should all be level during the feeding or the milk will gather in a bend and cause loss of oxygen. Look at the pup's position in the pic and put your friend's pup in the same position whether you tube-feed or eye-dropper feed.
My pup is now a healthy 1 year old with so much energy that he doesn't know what to do with it all.
Good luck to you, your friend, and this brave little pup. Bless you all.

First of all they need to find a new vet,my vet calls me back every time within an hour or two I even have his cell # .You micht need to give it less milk at its feedings puppies sometimes eat to much before they know it and will spit up,you also may need to mix it with alittle water to thin it,do not give it to the puppies cold it is thicker when cold.It could also not be the best milk for the puppies and may not sit on their stomach right,is I was them I would ask another vet to see if I could feed it goat milk or cow, that can crap is not realy the same as real milk and some vets will tell you anything if you do not have a pure breed k-9.

Hi, Boy them orphaned puppies are hard. If you cannot get a response from your vet call another. someone in the area has to have a 24hr line. and call back every 15 min.. I have been taught how to tube feed, but your vet would be better showing you, there is no way to explain it over the internet or by phone .let alone you have to have the correct tools to do so. They have to make sure they are wipping the puppys after feedings to let them pee and poop. The one who is having siezures, is usually because they do not have enough sugar in their body. Feed them one feeding sugar water, Use as much sugar as you can in the water to give them.. and then continue on the milk. the puppy who is having the seizures may not come out of it if it has been going on a while.. Might be best to let that one go and work on the ones who are still alive! Please call your vet, its a lot easier to tube feed than bottle feed!!

If these pups are premature, there might be nothing she can do. Tube feeding, if they don't take a bottle. I had a section on a ***** several years ago. The pups were big at birth, but I knew they were preemies. We had to to a section at the time we did as she was getting toxic from 2 dead pups already rotting. I came home from the section with 8 live pups and the *****. I was up for almost a week trying to keep these pups fed, even tube feeding. We lost every pup.

Many people love the idea of owning a dog but one thing that they have to keep in mind often times, is that the dog needs to be trained. While the pet may look heart-breakingly cute when it's in a shelter or at the pound, picking out the dog is only the first part of the relationship between dog owner and the animal. Many people don't understand that they have to put time and effort into socializing the dog.
An unsocialized dog will intimidate others, tear up the home, and will create an environment that can become so bad that the it will have to be returned. Many times when dogs have to be returned to shelters or to other resources, it will end up euthanized, which is very heartbreaking. All of this can be spared if a person learns the various techniques in order to socialize the dog.
One thing that they have to understand is that the he wants to be told what to do. It's in the canine nature to follow a leader. The dog will be more than willing to obey the leadership of its master. Here's a look at some common techniques that are used in dog training:
"Dog Whispering"
This is a technique that has been around for a while, but gained national notoriety over the last 10 years. Some people might hear this term and wonder how in the world whispering to a dog can train it! Whispering isn't meant to be taken literally in this case. As trainers have shown, whispering is a term that refers to connecting with a being or an entity on a very deep and almost spiritual level. When it comes to dog training techniques, dog whispering involves careful observation of the dog's behavior and actions.
It literally entails getting inside the mind and the behavior system of the canine. When a person uses dog whispering techniques, they interact with the dog on the canine level. Again, one the most common mistakes that people make is treating the dog like a small human being.
"Reward Training"
Reward training is very simple and it's one of the older tricks that works. This is a simple method of training the dog by positive reinforcement. Once he does what it is told to do, it receives a treat. How this works is that the dog owner must entice the dog towards the treat. Once the canine develops awareness for the treat, it develops a strong desire for it. When the desire for it is extremely strong, the dog owner pulls back. Then the dog receives a command and when the dog obeys the command, it receives the treat. The object is to make the dog associate a treat with the command.
"Clicker Training"
Other dog training techniques include one that is similar to reward training, which is called clicker training. How this works is that the clicker is incorporated to get the dog's attention. The clicker is clicked as a form of communication with the dog. It learns that there is a command or reward associated in conjunction with the clicker. Many people claim that this is fun, and they actually make a game with the dog by using the clicker for their dog training tasks.
"Ultrasonic Whistle"
Last, a relatively new form of dog training technique is called the ultrasonic whistle. This works because the ultrasonic sound is only heard by the dog. When the owner is trying to communicate a command, or stop the dog from barking, they will blow on their whistle when they want to communicate a command to the dog. The benefit of this is that the humans can't hear this noise, but the dog can hear it, and they will learn to associate the sound with a command.
Dog training techniques aren't hard to incorporate, but they are something that absolutely must be incorporated from the time a dog owner brings their new dog home. No matter how old or how young the dog is, they will need training. Once they are trained properly, they will be a wonderful addition to one's family.

at this point, the mom didn't band with her pups & won't now. someone's going to have to feed them & love them. take them to the vet & ask if it's humane to keep them. I know that's horrible, but sometimes puppies are jut not meant to live. I would just put them in a box & show up at the vet's & demand help. if they don't help, another vet will & the humane society definately will. in the mean time, keep them warm & together, touch them a lot, hold them close to your body. seizures can be fixed with medicine usually. good luck!

Go to the vet RIGHT NOW. If you're on the internet looking for advice about this, you probably had no business breeding a litter of dogs either.
