I lost a permanant tooth in the front of my mouth, and was wondering what procedures are used to put a replacement back in. How painful is it?

You could get a flipper that just replaces that tooth.....This one would be taken in and out. This would run you about $200.00
You could get a Marilyn bridge which would replace that tooth. This would be perminatly bonded to the two teeth on each side of the missing tooth. All they would have to shave down the back of each tooth a little bit to make room for the medal wing. This would run you about $800.00
Or you could have a three unit bridge made. This is a bit more work, They would have to cut down the two teeth down to a peg and then they make a bridge to replace the tooth. At the dentist I work for this would run you about $ 2200.00
The other option is having an implant. This is where they put a screw in the bone and then let it heal..... then they make a crown to fit over that. i have no idea what that runs because we don't do them.
Keep in mind i live in a small town up north and our prices are much lower than other places but it just gives you an idea of how they go up.

I would try for the Marlyn bridge first...

good luck.

This should be no worse than getting a filling..... you will just have to keep your mouth open longer.

If you have a good DDS you won't feel pain, you will be injected with something to numb you up. Afterwords you will feel some discomfort as the stuff injected wears off.

Let's look at the alternative - you don't replace the tooth. The tooth remaining (as partial or stubby as it may be) begins to rot, it infects the gums and the pain becomes unbearable. Not the case with you? Ok how about the social pressure pain - you are toothless - Ready for Jerry Springer?

Get the tooth fixed. It's worth it. Make life a little easier on yourself.

Blessed Be.

The best procedure to do to replace one tooth is to do a dental implant. The procedure is pretty simple and for most there isn't a lot of pain.
The dr will first give you anestheisa and let that work. Then he/she will make a round incison with a drill and it will get larger with each drill. Once it's too the size it needs too be then the dr will place the titanium implant and place a healing cap(screw) on the top of the implant. That takes about 6-8 wks to totally heal and then you'll be ready to have the abutment placed to start the process of getting a crown onthe implant. The dr will take impressions of the abutment and make a temp crown and send the impression to the lab to make your crownand it about 3 wks you'll have a great looking tooth and you'll feel great. Good Luck

I lost a permanent tooth too. My story was different though. I lost the whole tooth ( root and all) so the dentist just put the real tooth back in. That was in June and I my tooth is fine. It was pretty painful putting it back in and I imagine putting a fake tooth has the same amount of pain. Good Luck!

Crown, dentures, Dental Implants

Dental implant would probably be the most painful, although a crown is not very painful but will cause some discomfort and sensitivity to your surrounding teeth after they cut off a portion of them to fill in a crown but it would probably be your best bet

Well, you will feel the pain while replacing it. I lost 3 teeth when i underwent an accident. I had to fix on permanent 3 teeth in place of it. The dentist will inject an injection to the gums to actually not to feel the pain and thats it.
