First determine how important the pills really are. Were they prescribed by a doctor? Are they for heart diabetic, or blood pressure problems? Or are they vitamins? If they truly are necessary, try to find out why she won't take them. Is she worried about the cost?..or do they upset her stomach? Are they too large to swallow easily. Would a liquid form be easier? If you can find out the reason, you may be able to solve the problem. How old is she...just over 60 but with dementia? Or over 80 and just plain stubborn...makes a difference. You could also call her doctor to see if he can prescribe fewer or more agreeable meds that she might agree to. Bless you for your efforts with her.

be patient and explain to her why they are needed. Maybe go over with her physician to see if they all need to be taken, or if some of them are made in combinations. Also get a holder that is marked by the days Mon- Sun, and put the pills in there that she is to take and what time. This might help her remember. Good luck. Sometimes elderly are a little stubborn!!

Your friend has made a decision. Unless she is really crazy, she has every right to decide not to take her pills.
Love your friend and support their decision. Maybe your love will give your friend the will to stay around longer, and maybe not. But it is her decision.
Edit:
One other thought: Would you want someone else making your medical decisions for you against your will? At any age?

Slip them into food you fix. But don't crush them or anything because a lot of pills are time released and are no longer controlled substances when the coating breaks.

You can try hiding it in her food or mixing it with her juice. However, the best way is to have her take those pills willingly. Explain to her and let her understand why she has to take those pills. If she doesn't listen to you, have her medical provider explain it to her.

you can try to explain to her how much she means to you and that it's important that she takes them.
