it sounds like an abscess, you need to him to the vet, he needs treatment and antibiotics. some wounds needs a drain put it, this is so all the puss will drain out of the wound.
Don't bath him in salt water it's going to hurt your cat, if you are not going to take him to the vet until Monday warm compress the wound with warm water and a little of nolvasan solution (i don't know if you can buy that at the pet store) if you can't find that then use a little of hydroproxide

Its a cat bite alright, mine gets them all the time, because hes an aggressive fighting type, they dont always turn into abcesses, but you'd be better off taking him to the vet to make sure, bathe it in a mild salt and water solution, dont use ANY kind of antiseptic on it, your cat will lick it off and you could get a poisioned cat as well, dont give him any human painkillers either, they could kill him, when hes quiet see if you can put your hand over it, if it feels hot, then its infected.
What usually happens is this, the vet will check him over, take his temp, look at the bite, clean it out with special animal antiseptics, if its an abcess he will open it up a bit, get the pus and muck out, tell you to bathe it in salt water twice a day, and give you a 7 day course of antibiotics, because its on his leg it will take while to heal, but on the upside there are no nearby essential organs to infect so its not all that serious, you wont need a drain or anything for it, you just have to try to keep it open for a few days, the handy thing with abcesses on cats is they get a litttle plug of hair in them you can pull out an out comes the pus with it, have some wet cotton wool pads handy when you do this or it could get mucky!
buy a few cans of cheap tuna, put the crushed up tablet in a spoonful and feed to your cat, he will love it!

It sounds to me like he's been fighting, perhaps with another cat or even with a fox, and he's been bitten. You really need to take him to a vet - it could be infected and turn into an abscess. If you hold off taking him, it will cost more money as you'll have to have antibiotics and all sorts.
If you're unable to get to the vet over the weekend (I know how much they can charge for out of hours!!) wrap him in a towel so that he can't move and bathe it with warm salty water.
Good luck with him xxxx

if he will let you , pour peroxide on the wounds, till it has no more bubbles appearing! Then put an antibiotic ointment ,This is for infection and wrap it up if you can leave it on for a few days if he will allow you to do it. He will bits at the wrapping so you can make a collar out of cardboard to wrap it around his head so he will not try to undo what you have done for him. the collar should be in a cone shape so that he can eat and drink.. Give him a !/2 baby aspirin for the pain. be very careful cat bites are dangerous.

well it was probably another cat that bit him, but you have to be careful he cud get an infection, take him to the vet and the vet will clean it with summit special probably and then he will most likely give the cat antibiotics to prevent infection
my cat came home a year or 2 ago it happend he had sore bum couldnt sit down, took him to vet it turns out he had been bitten on the bum, and there was 2small teeth marks in his bum cheek, so vet gave him antibiotics and within 2-3 days my cat was able to sit more comfortably again

Take him to a vet NOW.
When our cat was bitten, we cleaned it up, and it looked okay. We cleaned it twice daily. But still three days later it was infected. The vet had to open up an area about four inches long to clean it all out. Then a full month of pills. Needless to say, it cost a lot more because we waited.
On top of that, his hair never grew back in the area.

My cat was gone for 4 months and came back with her leg torn almost off be a trap but yours sounds like it was a racoon so yo should take him to the vet to check if it is infected and if he has rabies.

It sounds like another cat bit your cat. From past experience you MUST take your cat to the vet asap as it is already infected that's why your cat bit you, pain. Something in a cats saliva is infectious to other cats. If you can't afford to go to your local vet try the PDSA who will help put you in the right riderction.

As you probally know, your cats has been into a fight with another cat, it is a very good idea to take him to the vet to get it checked out and treated before infection, as for your cat not wanting you to touch him i wouldn't worry, he is ptobally just scared and needs to gain trust for you again, meanwhile keep him indoors and give him lots of love and attention. hope this helps
