Particularly pain medication like Advil. What happens if one takes it a month or so late?

When the medication is past an expiration date it just means it's less effective and not as strong as it is meant to be. If you have Advil in your medicine cupboard I wouldn't pitch it quite yet (unless it is extremely past the expiration date- almost a year). Just use an extra pill to make up for the lack of potency.

Well Its like this, if you take alcohol and put some in a saucer it will eventually evaporate. All things change in time and at different rates. When Louis Pasture first discovered the cure for rabies he discovered that the rabies bacteria would become weaker with time and it would be useful for injections because the natural immune system would be able to defend itself against a weaker bacteria. So you see the pharmaceutical company's have technicians that experiment with all kinds of ingredients to determine what will work and how long it will be effective thus the expiration date determines the strength date and if you use it at a later date the germ could build up a resistance to the meds. So do whats requested and youll be just fine!

Normally the expiry date (DOE) is written on the container and you can read out,as far as taking medicines after SHELF LIFE expiry date is not recommended.
Nothing is going to happen if you have taken Advil within a month, but it's better you don't take it.
Normally all drugs are withdrawn from markets 6 months prior to date of expiry as per WHO recommendations.

A month or so late will not hurt. In most cases medicines just loose their efficiency. In some cases, very old meds (a year or more out of date) can cause serious problems.
