I have a mini daschund puppy who doesn't like kongs, nyla bones, rope, rawhides, Greenies, or bones. I am running out of ideas (and money) for things to keep him busy. He seems to always prefer my hands or clothes. Anyone have any healthy and safe chew ideas?

Yes , I sure do! I loooove mini-dachshunds! Mine ate everything from one of my very best (and most expensive) shoes to half of the WOODEN ARMREST off my childhood rocking chair I was saving as a memory antique! There were other things she chewed up of course but those 2 stand out in my mind the most. She lived 12 years until 3 years ago, when she passed. She was my very favorite breed and friend of all the dogs we ever had because she needed me and stayed with me everywhere I went----and I mean EVERYWHERE!! I could not say her name until she had been gone 2 years. She broke my heart---------what was the question???-----------oh, so sorry, I really got waaaay into that one but dachshunds are the very best!!!. TMI I know. Okay. I have raised 20 + puppies in my life, all different breeds, because my husband and I have always had from 2 to 4 dogs in our home to be comfortable. That little dachshund is going to be your Good Bud once he is a year old and gets over his heee-larious baby-self and has
enjoyed his mischief!! You poor thing!! OH, I HAVE YOUR ANSWER NOW!!! It's those round rubber balls that are soft with the rubber squeakers everybody tells you not to buy. Your little guy will want to know how to tear the squeaker out to make a hole in it, but that's after he drives you insane wanting YOU to throw it over and over and over and over, day and night and night and day ad infinitum!! We buried mine with her red rubber ball. They LOVE them!! Get the ones that look like rubber porcupines quills for texture all over the rubber ball if you can. Petsmart is cool!! Get the size he can catch. Dogs cannot discern color as we do, so bright red is always a winner!!! I am SO glad I came in here to answer a question and I went to Dogs and found Yours and remember my Sweet and Precious female mini-dachshund!! Thank you for reminding me of all the terrible but funny things she did when I thought she would NEVER EVER stop chewing my stuff up!!!! Extra Good Luck!!!!@8-) Anybody got a tissue??? Geeez!!! Thanks again.

This is pretty common in dogs, they eat plants to aid in their digestion. All wild canines do it, as well. It usually is OK unless she starts throwing up grass a lot. You don't want to let her overdo it, don't let her eat plants other than grass, many are poisonous, and if you use ANY kind of chemical fertilizer, pesticide or herbicide, don't let her eat the grass. Don't let her eat grass in public places like parks, either, for the same reason. For such a tiny dog, even a small amount of chemicals can really hurt her. If you do use chemicals, or only walk her in public places, many pet stores sell small containers of wheat grass specifically for this purpose. I know that Petco & PetSmart have them. They probably have grow your own kits on eBay. If she does throw up grass often, double check with the vet. It's probably still OK, but vomiting in a tiny dog can be more serious than in a larger one, they can dehydrate quicker.

there are a lot of things a little dog can play with. and it does not matter about the breed. all small dogs like to play with just about any thing they can manage to carry around and toss. Wal-Mart does have a nice collection of toys for large and small dogs. check it out. l hope you and your pet will have many hours of fun and play. you show a kind love towards your pet. good luck.

I found a line of toys for small dogs at Walmart...so sorry I can't remember the name of the line tho...they have a tug-of-war toy and a ball with little loops on it and a round toy to play fetch- my mini dog LOVES them.

I breed mini dachshunds so this should be be easy for me.. LOL

Mine tend to love anything that squeaks!! stuffed animals, plastic toys that squeak, etc.. I have very little success with chewies, bones, etc, until they are a little older.

my friend used to have the same kind of dog and she bought him stuffies cuz they are soft and wont hurt their teeth and they are cheap just get your dog a little stuffed animal that doesnt have buttons or eyes that he can choke on.
