I think that women should have curves. Many guys feel that way...they are just silenced by society and the media. I think you should still be very selective, maintain high self-esteem, and stay positive because when it's all said and done a man stays with a women for her personality.
The evolutionary perspective is that fat (lipid content of the body) was a good index for survival. In other words, 100,000 years ago if you were skinny and scrawny, you didn't stand much chance for survival. Up until recently many societies favored Rubinesque women, e.g., India is just now changing it's collective view of the ideal female body - in line with the questionable American perspective. (Unfortunately, since we live longer today, it's is related to things like heart disease and diabetes - which turns out is the only good reason for losing weight... that said I still like my women to have something to hold on to.)
