It depends on how much stuff you want to ship. You can check lots of baggage with you, for extra cost, but after 9/11 it's more restrictive and could all be searched without your presence. This is the riskiest method with lots of recent theft by insiders. Couriers are the next stage and can cost less depending on how much stuff and how soon you want it. Check your local mail service, DHL and UPS. Freighting it is the cheapest and takes the longest. Check with a local freight forwarder.

If you can afford the excess baggage fees, then checking them would be better and faster. Express can be nice too, but still expensive. A reasonable cheaper alternative would be air freight through cargo forwarders. It arrives within few days but is much cheaper than excess baggage or express.
