Cutting oxycotin in half isn't a good idea at ALL... it's time released and meant to give a small dosage over a long period of time, so cutting it in half would give the full dosage at once. Not only is this dangerous, but it'll lead to addiction much faster than giving the whole pill.

Percocet and vicodin (hydrocodone and oxycodone) are fine to do this with, though, as they aren't time-release and half a pill will give half a dose.

You shouldn't cut it. Long acting pills are designed for slow release. Giving him a cut pill could release more medicine faster and cause him problems.

The last thing he should worry about is getting addicted. Comfort in a cancer patient is paramount. You didn't say if his cancer was terminal or not. If so, there's no harm in addiction in his case.

Noooooooooooooooo.

Take it exactly as directed. It's time released, and is designed to be un-fooled around with.
