In terms of salaries, possibility of promotion, challenge, working conditions, what is the best (and the worst) federal law enforcement agencies in which to work?

I can't get to detailed, but we had one patrolman from our department go to the FBI. I saw him recently and he said he loved it !!!!

This question is really all a matter of opinion. Everyone believes the agency they work for is the best. If I had to pick one though I would have to say the Dept. of Homeland Security would be the best and the CIA, while however well paid, would be the worst. This is all just a matter of opinion.

I have never worked in law enforcement, but from what I have read and seen on the internet, is that the US Marshall Service seems to be one of the best. They not only are involved in fugitive apprehension, but they are involved in a lot of other federal law enforcement activities that over lap all other Federal Law enforcement.

It depends on what you like to investigate.
If you are interested in a career in drug investigations, you would go to the DEA and not to the USM and so on.
As for salaries, promotion, etc, they all work roughly the same. It's a step system that basically has the same outcome if you are a good agent.

BEST: Dept of Homeland Security
WORST: FPS (Federal Protective Service)

I heard State is OK, FBI is involved in some Gestapo type stuff with the NSA/CIA these days so unless you are OK with framing people and violating the Constitution then look elsewhere.

I would assume FBI would be the best. CIA is too shadowy.
