My husband and I got married in a courthouse five years ago. On our tenth wedding anniversary he wants us to have a real wedding. I know it does not take five years to plan a wedding, but I would like to know when i should start planning the wedding. What is a good amount of time to give the planning?

It should take only one day of serious thinking.

12 months.

However, it is actually in poor taste to have a "re-run wedding." I suggest you plan an anniversary banquet or dinner-dance instead. But not a re-enactment of the cereomny. That's something that would be highly unsentimental to "upgrade."

Your REAL wedding is the first one-- the one that made you a married couple. Regardless of how modest it was. Your vows and marriage are not less any important because your wedding was not fancy!

If I were you I would determine how big your wedding will be. Small wedding? (50-100 people)I would start a year in advance. Large wedding? (150+ people) I would start two years in advance. Keep any ideas you find in the mean time in a journal. If you have time on your hands, consider planning it yourself. Websites such as: the wedding channel (www.weddingchannel.com) and the knot (www.theknot.com) make it easy to plan your own wedding. I'm planning my own wedding and it's actually quite fun.

All the websites I have visited and the wedding planner I bought seem to think you need one year to completely plan a wedding; I'm doing it all in a matter of 4 months! Depends on what you want.

I would suggest at least 1 year. I am trying to plan my wedding now in 7 months and wish I would have given myself more time.

To have a decent wedding, i think at least 5 months ahead of time. Five years is ok, but not really needed.

Being a wedding planner myself
Planning a wedding even a vow renewal normally takes about one year to plan, that gives you time to get the hall, church or such for your ceremony. Also gives you time to get out invites that you want to have sent out.
You can always check other wedding sites for ideas or edicite for the vow renewal.

Good luck and Congrats.

I would suggest starting to book things 6-9 months in advance, such as the location & who ever may be doing your food. Start early just to get everything in order, but overall it won't take much time to actually plan & set things up.

I would say between 12-18 months. More than 18 mths ahead of time and you will begin to get antsy from the anticipation.

Inform your husband that you are already married.
This will have to be approached as a vow renewal. Start planning whenever you wish.
